    Help 2 L.W. Miller Co. - Logan, Ut.?

    Anything negative, positive, or whatever about LW Miller out of Logan, Utah? If I can carve out a decent safety record at some other company for a year or so to get back in, it sounds like it would be worth the move to the SLC area. Especially interested in their "Dry Bulk/Pneumatic" division. Thanks.

    Some things I know about L.W. Miller

    I used to see L.W.'s ad in the Logan newspaper a lot. However, I never saw that many empty cleaned-outs at their terminal.

    Unfortunately, I think this company pays peanuts compared to other outfits. Peanuts as in mid-twenties per mile or even lower.

    L.W. has its own truckstop. It's one of very few companies out there that has a truckstop. It's a pretty good one, too.

    Logan is about 90 miles north-northeast of Salt Lake in the Cache Valley. If you're interested in working for L.W., I'd recommend moving to this area and not Salt Lake City.

    Logan and the Cache Valley is a nice place, but I don't care for the religion.

    There's another trucking company in the Cache Valley by the name of "Miller" . I think this company is called "Miller Brothers". They have black trucks with gold lettering and mainly haul meat back east. The terminal is based either out of, or is associated with, a slaughterhouse.

    There is a third trucking company in that valley as well, but I can't remember the name of it. It's south of Logan on US 89. They have white Petes. They may be okay to work for.

    Driving to and from I-15 via 89 can be a pain in the winter. It's no Parley's Canyon, but it IS somewhat mountainous. You'll need to chain up sometimes in and out of there in temps as low as 10 below in that Utah wind.

    Pnuematic/Bulk LW Miller Transportation...

    As I am currently employed on the refer side of things here at LW Miller, I have had time (because they leave me sit so much) to speak with some of these drivers on the pnuematic/bulk side of the company.

    The miles are good, however they are paid based on percentage. This can be a good thing as the 5 or so that I have spoken with said that they are making good money each week and the miles and loads are good as well.

    One thing that you MUST have to go into that division is your hazmat endorsement as they do haul some hazardous material loads. Just don't go into the refer division or you will sit more than drive. LMAO

    What do you think?

    I am getting calls from LWM to go to work for them.. But after what I have read throw out this wed site, I really dont know if I should go with them. I live in So CA. and they are telling me that they will be able to get me home every week. Is this a lie. Thanks For taking the time to read this..

    I'm currently going through the process of moving to the USA on a 2year sponser employment scheme and yes my chosen company is LW Miller,running fridges(refers) with a base out of CA,what can i look forward to?

    God Help YOU!!!

    You chose LW Miller... I am sorry to say that you can now plan on being treated good for the first few months, but after the "honeymoon" phase you can count on sitting a LOT!!! They will treat you like a slave because they know that they "own" you as they sponsered you into the country. I hate to say that, but I was there and seen it happen many MANY times.

    thanks for the reply.i take it that you still work at LWM so something is ok,anyway what sort of money do you earn,i was told 0.32 per mile and more for unloading,waiting,etc etc.does the job run well up and down the west coast,i'm looking at living in mid CA,at least on my off days anyway

    Money? What Money?

    The problem is that they do not pay very well for starters. 32 cents per mile is bottom of the barrel for a truck driver. Next, you have to get miles to make money when you work driving a truck and I was left sitting at least 24 hrs to 48 hrs between loads...
    That translates to a lot of lost income. Then the issue of unloading pay and extra pay that they are dangling to you... Well, don't count on getting it!!! I USED to work there... I left because I was not making enough money to support my family. Then they started starcing me out. Making things so I did not make enough to cover anything other than my deductions... Get the picture?
    Do yourself a favor and do NOT go to this company.
