NYPD Rejects 'Dopey' Meatball Defense

NYPD Rejects 'Dopey' Meatball Defense
8/24/07
NEW YORK (AP) -- So much for the meatball defense. A veteran counterterrorism detective's claims that he flunked a drug test because his wife served him marijuana-spiked meatballs "simply weren't credible," and he has been fired by the New York Police Department, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Thursday.
With the dismissal, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly rejected an earlier recommendation by an administrative judge that the detective, Anthony Chiofalo, be reinstated. Kelly has final say on firings.
An attorney for Chiofalo did not immediately respond to a telephone message seeking comment.
Chiofalo, a 22-year-veteran assigned to the Joint Terrorism Task Force, was suspended without pay in 2005 after a random drug test found marijuana in his system. The officer denied ever using drugs and demanded a hearing.
During an investigation, his wife said she had secretly substituted marijuana for oregano in her meatball recipe in hopes of forcing him to leave police work.
The detective's lawyers presented evidence that she had passed a lie-detector test, and offered testimony from a toxicologist that the excuse was valid.ap/tbo

So lemme get this straight: his wife spikes his food with pot, she admits to doing this under oath, she passes a polygraph test (which I personally put little faith in, but anyway...), and the commissioner ignores reality & fires a 22-year veteran anyway, essentially ruining his life. Seems to me HE needs a drug test...tell me, do they test for idiot powder?

I wonder if he'll divorce his wife now?

Heck, I wonder if he'll rip her limb from limb with a chainsaw.

I hope he doesn't show up at the commissioner's office with a shotgun...

This reminds me of another story I read about in the Army Times:

This female soldier tested positive for cocaine and her story was this...
She had an on again off again relationship with her ex-husband because of HIS drug problems. Turns out he was putting cocaine on his ##### during one of their on again phases and the cocaine was "absorbed" into her body during intercorse. She claims she didn't know about it until she confronted him about the testing positive thing. Never heard how this came out but I doubt the Army believed her.

You know, just like you should know what people are putting on your truck, you should know what people are putting in your body!
