Single Bullet Fired Into Colorado Home Kills Woman, Girl at New Year's Eve Party

Single Bullet Fired Into Colorado Home Kills Woman, Girl at New Year's Eve Party

1/1/08
Quote:
DENVER — An 11-year-old girl and a woman were killed by a single bullet fired into a home from hundreds of yards away early Tuesday, possibly by a New Year's reveler, police said.
Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said the bizarre shooting, which came shortly after midnight, may have been accidental. No arrests had been made, but investigators said they did not believe a sniper was on the loose.

The victims' names had not been released. It wasn't immediately known if they were related.
Police said the pair were at a party with about 10 other people when at least one shot was fired from up to 300 yards away, possibly from across a park next to the home. Jackson said one bullet went through the front wall of the house, passed through the head of the woman, who was seated, and struck the girl in the side.
Jackson said investigators traced the trajectory of the shot to determine that the single bullet killed both victims.
A second bullet was found in a snowbank in front of the home.
The woman died at the scene and the girl was pronounced dead at a hospital.

looks like somebody wanted them dead. a regular bullet will not travel 300 plus yards go thru a wall, thru a head and into the side of another person, all in a straight line. a bullet is gonna start going diferent directions after that wall, if it even goes thru it. i think this was a hit of some sort. and maybe with a 30.06 sniper rifle.

there are plenty of rifles capable of goin thru a wall and through multiple targets

a buddy of mine dropped 2 elk at 400 yards with an 300 wsm (accidently of course....they just happened to have one runnin behind the other when he fired, and yes he did get fined)

as to a hit....i really dought it...sounds more like a unlucky shot to have gone thru the wall ( probaly means the shooter couldn't see the victims) and two victims

im willing to bet some drunk j/a was out popping a few founds off with his new huntin rifle

remember kids....never mix booze and bullets

thing is, it's not the rifle going thru the wall it's the bullet. and this bullet traveled 300 + yards, then thru a wall then threw a head into another person. another bullet was found in the front of the house. if it was a mobile home then yes, brick no and some of these houses now days ,no. but once again not enough details to come to a real conclusion.

all im saying is any hunting caliber rifle will put a bullet through a standerd outside wall....if it is a fmj round it will probaly even maintain its origonal trajectory, a hollow point would disinergrate upon impact

heck a .22 will go thru a steel pickup tailgate at 20 feet ( dont ask how i know)

o and a .22 has a deadly range of a mile

if you think 300 yards is too long of a distance i know quite a few poeple who will take large game at 600+ yards consistaly

just ask any speed goat hunter out west what the normal shot distance is

but the .22 will bounce all over the place after initial impact. the m-16/ar-15 bullet does the same thing. it was definitly a powered rifle cause of the distance but think it came straight across not from the air as it would have if it was shot in the air from people celebrating new years. there's more than meets the eye here is all i am saying.

and a .22 like a m-16/ar-15 bullet will travel the same direction til in impacts something, it can be as little as a bug.

there may be more than meets the eye....but i dont think so

an ar/m16 is a .223 or in my neck of the woods a gopher gun.....not a very heavy bullet at 55 grains

the type of weapon that probaly did this is more like a deer or elk rifle 30.06, .303, .300, .308, .338...all shoot heavy rounds at 140 to 200 grains that have the penetration and mass capable of this

and btw....just becuase it has a scope on it does not mean its a sniper rifle....but remington makes a very nice sniper rifle in .308 aka the m24

300 yards is really not that far when dealing with a properly set up rifle, but its an ungodly distance with a shotgun/slug combo

but i still think it was some j/a out shooting his new rifle....prolly lit up like a christmas tree

makes no sense. people shoot in the air most of the time when celebrating not straight across the yard in a residentual neighborhood.
