Odds are growing for economic recession

Odds are growing for economic recession
1/13/08
Quote:
WASHINGTON - The unemployment rate leaps to a two-year high, record numbers of people are forced from their homes and Wall Street nose-dives again. Such is the fallout from a housing meltdown that threatens to slingshot the country into a recession.
The big economic question these days is whether the weakening economy will survive the strains or collapse under them.
The odds have grown that the economy will slip into a recession. At the beginning of last year, many economists put that chance at less than 1-in-3; now an increasing number says it has climbed to around 50-50. Goldman Sachs, the biggest investment bank on Wall Street even thinks a recession is inevitable this year.
Hopeful it can be avoided, President Bush and the Democrat-controlled Congress are exploring economic rescue measures, including possible tax rebates. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke pledged to lower interest rates as needed.
The idea is to induce people to boost spending, especially on big-ticket items such as homes and cars, and revitalize economic activity.

The Democrats take control of congress and what have they
accomplished? Harry Reid decreased confidence by saying we
have lost the war in Iraq (when we are winning). They have
increased the minimum wage, starting a layoff. Attacked employers
who hire illegals, rather than go to the root of the problem by
securing our border. Every year since Bush has taken office
the Dems have predicted a recession. Now, when these
tax cuts which I and thousands of other Drivers have profited from
expire (thereby raising taxes) this Democratic congress will get their
wish (a recession). When Bush leaves Hillary in a recession just remember
it was caused by this democratic congress......

The so-called "experts" have been saying a recession is right around the corner for 5 years. Now the economy slows and they all say "See? we were right".

Ignoring the quarter after quarter of growth.

As I have often said, when everyone else is standing in bread lines, I expect to stay busy delivering flour to the bread companies......

LOL - ain't it true? Even in the worst economical situation, trucks simply cannot stop - if they do, we're ALL in a DISASTER that would be FAR worse then the Great Depression.
