D.C. High School Track Star Disqualified Over Muslim Uniform

What is the issue here? It is not like this girl was doing anything to give herself an advantage.

WASHINGTON — A high school track star has been disqualified from a meet because officials said the custom-made outfit she wears to conform to her Muslim faith violated competition rules.
Juashaunna Kelly, a senior at the District of Columbia's Theodore Roosevelt High School, has the fastest mile and two-mile times of any girls' runner in the city this winter. She was disqualified from Saturday's Montgomery Invitational indoor track and field meet.
Kelly was wearing the same uniform she has worn for the past three seasons while running for Theodore Roosevelt's cross-country and track teams. The custom-made, one-piece blue and orange unitard covers her head, arms, torso and legs. Over the unitard, she wears the same orange and blue T-shirt and shorts as her teammates.
The outfit allows her to compete while adhering to her Muslim faith, which forbids displaying any skin other than her face and hands.

I don't understand that ruling at all. If she was wearing the red crescent or some logo, but that is just material. This stinks. There is more to this than they are revealing.

Well she sounds like a top contender, it wasn't a problem for several years prior to this. Sounds like more stupidity...Muslims...eeeekkk!! Black Muslims...double EEEEKKK!! Who knows, hopefully we'll hear how this turns out, and I hope she is able to participate in her chosen sport without further interference.

She was breaking the rules. Everyone else followed the rules. Why can't she?

Her "uniform" was not official.

No special treatment for religion right? Or does that only apply to Christians...

Here, some faiths are allowed to wear Turbans instead of the standard RCMP hat and that's a strict uniform that all in the RCMP must wear, yet they get an exception.

Since when is there a strict uniform rule for track and field??? This is school, right? Not the police or something. Who cares if she wears other things as long as she wears the usual stuff?

This ruling makes no sense.
