Mall Requires Teens to Have Adult Escorts on Weekends

Mall Requires Teens to Have Adult Escorts on Weekends

METAIRIE, La. — Bars, casinos and adult movies all have age restrictions and, now, so does a suburban New Orleans mall.

Clearview Mall in Metairie has begun barring customers who are 16 and younger unless they are accompanied by an adult who is at least 21. The restrictions are in force on Friday's and Saturdays from 4 p.m. until closing.
Problems with unruly teenagers prompted the policy. It actually has been in place since last summer, according to Joy Patin, Clearview's marketing director. But mall officials decided to drastically step up enforcement last Friday after a series of events that culminated in a particularly violent fight in the food court on Feb. 9.

"We like to welcome everyone to come to the mall, but to crack down on the security issue we had to do something," General Manager Tara Lubrano said.

To enforce the rule, the mall has hired extra security to guard the shopping center's entrances and card the masses.
So far, the policy — similar to others in place in Minnesota, St. Louis and elsewhere — has elicited some grumbles from teenagers but mostly praise from mall tenants and adults, Lubrano said.

They began doing this at our malls here about a year ago...but it's ANYTIME, not just weekends.

I remember practically living at the mall...can't imagine having to have my MOM there to babysit me. But I do understand the reasoning.

You know they have to do things like this now since today's teens and children have no respect, morals, or discipline any more. Now that it's practically illegal to even give your child a frown or else child services will come take them away for mental abuse. And heaven forbid if we actually spanked our kids nowadays. That scars them for life, makes them serial killers, ruins their psyche, gives them emotional problems for life, etc. Bull. That's exactly what is wrong with today's world. We aren't allowed to raise our children with discipline any more.

I'm not saying that all kids are bad, but the majority are absolutely horrid now. No manners, talk back, refuse to do what they're told, and pretty much get away with any thing they want because they're "protected" by child services.

By golly, when I was a kid, I got my ##### whopped!!! Hard!! I got my rear end whipped in school a couple of times too, and I didn't go kill half the students and the teacher that did it. I'm not emotionally scarred. I have no designs to kill anyone (except maybe the ex sometimes for totally different reasons) and I actually believe in working, not sitting on my butt having it all handed to me by society. We need to quit pandering to our kids and start raising them. This crud of not giving grades on report cards now because it might hurt a child's feelings if they have a D and their friend has an A. Horse hockey. You either do the work or fail your class, and you get graded on how well you do it. So much bull concerning what we can and can't do now, what is allowed by schools to do and what isn't, grades, and everything when it comes to raising children.

t wilson!! Exactly!!!

My kids aren't like the majority but they ARE the minority and that's so sad.

I can totally see why they'd need this and I applaud them for having the wherewithal to do it. Good for them!
