Trading Nude Photos Via Mobile Phone Now Part of Teen Dating, Experts Say

Monday, April 14, 2008
Quote:
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Forget about passing notes in study hall; some teens are now using their cell phones to flirt and send nude pictures of themselves.
The instant text, picture and video messages have become part of some teens' courtship behavior, police and school officials said.
The messages often spread quickly and sometimes find their way to public Web sites.

"I've seen everything from your basic striptease to sexual acts being performed," said Reynoldsburg police Detective Brian Marvin, a member of the FBI Cyber Crime Task Force of Central Ohio. "You name it, they will do it at their home under this perceived anonymity."
Westerville Central High School senior Jerome Ray said he's received such unsolicited messages, including one from a classmate while he was sitting with his girlfriend.
"A lot more girls are aggressive," said Ray, 18. "Some girls are crazy and they are putting themselves out there."

now, i know there are plenty of pervs out there, but just goes to show that most girls are just as much at fault for the positions they put themselves into.

AND....

what is this world coming to??

I can see it now....Some girl takes a movie of herself performing some act, sends it to some random guy and he gets busted for kiddie porn. talk about injustice.

I caught my 13 yr old daughter doing this. Unfortunately it was after the fact. I spoke to the state police about it. They said it's been a rising problem for a while now. Offered for me to bring her in and they would talk to her. I took them up on it. They showed her some pictures of girls who had "self-promoted" and were now dead because the wrong person got the pictures. They also went over the Megan's Law local offenders of child pornography. THEN they also stated to her that being the phone is in an adult's name, the adult is responsible for the content of the phone. Parents could quite possibly be arrested for their child's indescretions.

Needless to say, she no longer has a cell phone and is paying for all the picture messages she sent. I also made her sign up and volunteer at the local animal shelter to do some "community service" time.

DaYuM!

Thirteen, you say?
And you've punished a 13 year-old for THAT?!
Good for you!

Just one question?
Why the animal shelter?

They were the only community service type people that would let a 13 year old volunteer. Plus they promised they would make her have the "crappy" jobs when available. If she screws up once she's 14, oh boy, she's in a whole other mess of problems.

"When available"?!
Man-0-MaN!
I'd call THAT, 'job security'.

Although, if they're having her FEED 'em, too --- that might just be a conflict of interest.
Ya reckon.

She feeds, grooms, walks, clean kennels, and plays with them. she does like one bit about it. She can bring new ones home for a night and "socialize" them. She brought a cute little scared Pomeranian home over the weekend. We all liked the dog but if we adopted, we couldnt keep letting her bring them home to socialize. She told me even once I'm done "punishing" her, she still wants to volunteer there. Guess some good came out of it. She's in student government as well. her service project for next year is getting more volunteers there to help out with the animals.

I am really happy to see another parent out there with creative discipline ideas. I think that you are doing a wonderful job with your daughter. WTG!!!

I too use not so conventional methods with my two boys. Its amazing what you can do to actually make them think twice.

My boys destroyed each others doors, during a fight, one trying to get to the other and vice versa, so I removed the doors from their rooms, told them when they could pay for new ones, they could have their privacy back. They were 13 & 14 at the time. Neither of them had much of a way to make money to get new doors for a while, so they suffered. LOL

And after that, they never destroyed another thing in the house. Sometimes it takes a little thinking outside the box to get a message through.

Way to go. The talk with the cops was a good idea. The kids just often don't have any clue about the consequences of their actions (that's why they are still kids). A good parent is creative with their punishments so they end up learning something too. Good for you, and I hope that she stays out of trouble.

I'm so with you on this! We never put televisions, computers, or video games in the kids' bedrooms while they were still our dependents... and yet when they were angry, they'd stomp off into their bedrooms to cool off. (No sassing in my house, either.)

I had a few door slamming incidents as they'd disappear into their rooms... so I explained that the next time I heard a door slam in anger, I would remove the door. They can't use it properly, they can't have it. Simple as that. (I was never into yelling at my kids. Simple discipline is so much easier. LOL)

Sure as shootin', my daughter tested me. And sure as shootin', she had no bedroom door for quite a while. So endeth the door slamming in our house. It's funny how quickly they can learn.
