Rebate checks diverted

Rebate checks diverted to pay $2B in debts
6/25/08
Quote:
About $2 billion in economic stimulus rebate checks are being confiscated to pay overdue bills for child support, students loans and back taxes, the government says.
So far, 1.8 million rebate checks have been intercepted by Treasury Department computers showing that individuals owe money to federal or state governments.

Interesting.. Personally I think the rebate deal is dumb anyways.. Think about it, I will skip the government giving us our own money part and name one big issue with this.. The money people will get will just be spent at Walmart buying products made is China and such. So, who is that really helping? America or helping the economies of foreign nations we buy all our products? thus the money is not really being spent here but simply helping foreign nations out.. We need jobs here period, there is no simple fix like rebate checks ext.. We need to stop buying so much from other countries and start manufacturing our own goods again, bringing back jobs to America.. That is a fix and not a political scam to mask the numbers of our economy as the rebate check is...
