Troubled Mortgage Giants

Government may soon back troubled mortgage giants
9/6/08
Quote:
WASHINGTON - The government is expected to take over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as soon as this weekend in a monumental move designed to protect the mortgage market from the failure of the two companies, which together hold or guarantee half of the nation's mortgage debt, a person briefed on the matter said Friday night.

Watch for the second wave...starting soon at a bank near you.

Just last week, there was discussion of a "second wave" of failures. Related to heavily strapped banks who lended to commercial accounts, that were now having trouble. The speaker stated this wave would/should hit in the near future as construction slowed and companies cut back on store openings and in their current stores.

Leading to the phrase "Ghost Malls". Malls that sit empty because contracted stores could no longer enter the market, or had completely closed.

The first of these failures (caused by over extended commercial accounts) hit the wire on Friday September 05.

Silver City Bancorp...will be taken over by the Fed. [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.

Well, I hope nobody around here is going to need a home loan for awhile.

It's back to basics as far as those are concerned.

No more NINJA loans.

If you want to move to MS...they're giving money away. Grants...yes grants ranging from $7500 - $25,000.

We currently have 5 new built houses sitting empty here, that have all been approved for these grants. No takers.
