Deputies: Teacher Tried To Meet Minor For Sex Deputies: Teacher Tried To Meet Minor For Sex Quote: BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. -- A substitute teacher was arrested Thursday for allegedly attempting to arrange a meeting with a minor for sexual purposes, the Butte County Sheriff's Department said. Gerald Lemay is accused of initiating a chat room conversation with a Santa Cruz police detective he thought was a 13-year-old girl, police said. During the conversation, Lemay agreed to go to Santa Cruz to meet with the girl. Lemay, however, never went to Santa Cruz, officials said. How can someone be arrested without actually trying to commit the crime? This man only communicated on the computer with someone. Maybe he was just investigating what teens do online or how easy it is to arrange something with a teen. I would think it would depend on the context of the chat. If it were graphic and explicit, lock him up. Of course, I'm one of those that feels if they guy actually goes through with it and molests the child, he needs to be deleted. Period.

Could be possible, but why didn't he notify authorities of what he had found? Simple enough, now under the existing laws and attitude of the majority, you WILL be considered GUILTY without a TRIAL. Therefore, any contact with the authorities would have led to immediate arrest. Under US law, no crime was committed was there?
