| Car Smashes into Sparks Home, Lands on Couple's Bed Quote: A Sparks couple is lucky to be alive and thanking those who helped them, after a car plowed into their home, coming to a stop in the bedroom and landing on top of them, while they were sleeping. It happened around 4:00 am Tuesday morning, on 7th and E Streets in downtown Sparks. According to Sparks P.D., the speeding vehicle ran into the home, smashing through two walls. Neighbors called 911 after the crash woke them up, and detained the driver of the car, who tried to flee the scene once he crashed. The car landed on top of the couple's bed, trapping Trent Wood and Kristin Palmer underneath. It took police 45 minutes to remove them and they were taken to the hospital. The driver, meanwhile, was not injured, but has been arrested. Police say he was heavily intoxicated. They also believe he was deliberately trying to crash his car into a specific home, however, because he was under the influence, he got the wrong house. Cameron Bartl, the homeowner, says he was not in the house, but that the neighbors called him to explain what happened. Bartl says Trent and Kristin are renters, and just moved in back in August. The two are students at UNR and Kristin runs track. Both have been treated and released from the hospital, receiving only minor injuries. Kristin's were more severe, with bumps, bruising and a burn on her leg from the car's muffler. The two are now focused on getting their personal belongings out of the home, and recovering in full. They say they are grateful to everyone who helped them. When asked to describe their ordeal, Trent and Kristin say it was like a nightmare. They woke up together, legs entwined, not knowing what happened, or what was on top of them. Kristin felt her leg burning and says Trent had to keep her calm. Both yelled for help, unable to move, or do anything to let people know they were trapped. Their fear, they say, was burning alive, but through it all, both remained positive.
