Crazy 4 wheeler car chase?

This morning I was nearly hit head on on US 301 in Maryland by a car going north in southbound lane being chased by 5 or 6 md state troopers. Anybody else see this wild sheet. I wonder what happened?

Del. man shot to death by police in Md.

The News Journal

DELMAR — A Delaware man wanted by police was shot to death early today after leading officers on a wrong-way chase for 25 miles on U.S. 50 and U.S. 301 in Maryland, officials said.
Christopher D. Hale, 37, of the 12000 block of Line Road east of Delmar, was spotted by a Maryland State Police trooper about 5:30 a.m. after 911 calls reporting a car driving east in the westbound lanes of U.S. 50 near Kent Narrows.
Trooper Nathanial L. Vansant was eastbound when he spotted Hale’s car heading directly at him. Vansant turned around and pursued Hale. A Maryland Transportation Authority officer, Queen Anne’s County sheriff’s deputies and other troopers also joined the pursuit, which continued east on U.S. 50 and north on U.S. 301 in the southbound lanes despite efforts to bring Hale’s car to a halt with stop sticks placed on the roadway.

At Md. 300, Hale headed west toward Church Hill and then turned onto John Powell Road, with the car coming to rest in a ditch in an area of woods.

A state police helicopter hovered overhead, with a spotlight illuminating the area.

Four troopers and a transportation officer approached Hale’s 2009 Subaru Impreza. One of the troopers shined a flashlight into the car and ordered Hale to show his hands and surrender, officials said.

Police said Hale then pointed a black handgun at the trooper – who yelled “gun” to the other officers and took cover, officials said.

The other four officers opened fire on hale, officials said. A paramedic from the helicopter crew pronounced Hale dead at the scene.

The three Maryland State Police troopers who fired were identified as Vansant, a four-year-veteran, Trooper First Class John V. Hickey, a ten-year-veteran, and Trooper James M. Pettit, a two-year veteran.

The Maryland Transportation Authority officer who fired was identified as Brian R. Jordan, and eight-year veteran of that force.

All four were placed on administrative leave pending results of an investigation, according to a state police news release.

Police said Hale had been wanted by Anne Arundel County authorities for second degree escape, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, and hindering a police officer.

The gun held by Hale was recovered and determined to be a Crossman BB gun that was a replica of a semi-automatic pistol. His car was a Hertz rental scheduled to be returned Oct. 24.

While traffic was moderate, police said no vehicles were struck during the pursuit.

I think this is the story he was talking about. Outcome sucked but at least he won't be repeating this again.
