This is why law abiding citizens with a carry permit need to be able to carry on a base. This person knew he was in a "gun free zone" and picked an area with a lot of targets. It always bothered me that no one on a base could carry.

My cousin is stationed at Fort Hood. His dumb ### didn't even bother to call his mother to let her know that he was okay but on lock down. Instead he text messaged his girlfriend. In the meantime my phone was getting blown up with calls of concern for him and if there was anyway if I could find out any information on his condition. His girlfriend had the presence of mind to call his brother to let them know that he was okay. I almost pulled my Colonel out of a meeting so he could get on the SIPR (Secure Internet Protocol Router) to glean any information that he could on the situation to put my family at ease.

I have friends attatched to 1st cav. I was getting my phone blown up with txt as well. However, with the chaos going on the first txt people who could get in touch with family for them. It was simply easier than calling until everything settled down.
