Frac Sand Hauling in TX

Many of the companies here also work out of PA. I'm not sure if they haul the sand that far but almost every comp. has drivers here and there. Two of the guys I work with are up there right now but I'm new to the sand hauling so I keep to myself. I'll repost if I here anything about that lane

Hello. We have been dealing with Frac Sand for over a year. I personally am not hauling it (my last serious hauling was salt water, but my other half is). Pay checks range from near nothing to a couple of thousand a week. There is work out there currently. The work does fluctuate dramatically. Most companies do have trailers available for lease (for a price!).

My other half recently left Flex Frac (Ft. Worth, TX). This company seems to be doing poorly. He is currently on a truck leased with A&J out of Ada, OK with most of his hauling in the state of TX. Most of the TX work currently appears to be down in the San Antonio area for this particular company. So far, we are finding that there is more running here with potentially better pay.

We have heard excellent reports of D&T and the other half is looking at possibly going on a truck with them.

Rumor (I REPEAT.... RUMOR) is that Flex Frac was recently shut down by the DOT. I have yet to positively confirm this.

Be prepared to live on your truck. Be prepared to be out for 2-6 weeks at a time (depending upon the company). Make sure that you have your truck well stocked with food because it is not uncommon to end up on a well site for 24 or more hours (paid detention!). The off pavement hauling can vary from less than a hundred yards on the job to over a couple of miles, so this question is difficult to answer. Most frac companies (from my observation here in TX) run a few states. My other half basically runs: TX, LA, OK, NM with a bit of AR on occasion.

Hope that this helps to answer some of your questions. Frac sand pays better than most trucking. It pays better than salt water and salt water pays better than rock (I'm in the rock hauling capital of the universe!!!! LOL). My other half has been out OTR (mainly flat bed) and Frac sand certainly pays better than the average flatbedding job. Most oil field related jobs will pay better.

 

There is a yard in Devine, TX that is right off of I-35 that has large Flex Frac signs offering the $5,000 sign on bonus. I am uncertain as to who owns/operates the yard. I have driven by that yard several times at different times throughout the week and weekend. It has been a while since I have seen any trucks filling up. I used to see anywhere from several trucks and trailers to several dozen. Not sure where they went but I no longer see anything happening. I even stopped by the office and knocked on the door approx 3 weeks ago and no one answered. The door was unlocked but no one was around. Not sure what the deal is. Anyone know?

 

I drove by it twice this weekend and the latest was last night. Both times there was no activity. I saw half a dozen trucks and trailers parked in line at the back of the property. Not sure what the deal is. The Flex Frac bonus signs are still up too.
