Rowdy, if you're looking to subcontract a small fleet, I would try to go through Clark Trucking in Muncy, or QC in Williamsport. They keep busy. So does Allison.

They have cut pay rates by a buck or two an hour and no per diem
because of a driver surplus up there.
Turnover was high before cause of the long hours.
Now it's even higher.
I tried it for a coupla months then they cut the pay.
Also, the trucks have only one or two fuel cards between them so you
hafta make arrangements to meet whoever has one to fuel up....BS!
The tiny house where they put us up had 14 guys in there.
You had to fight everyone for a spot to sleep and it was
hard to sleep when you did cause of all the noise.
Everybody stealing your groceries, personal effects, etc.
Not worth it at current rates.groundpounder Thanks this. -
im not here to make enemies or anything i ran water truck for 5 months and like you guys said i was burnt out only had maybe couple hours of sleep a nit all i did was run run run the money was great but going to work n coming home to kids n wife in bed was no fun. and the rate did go down the guys i worked for said 2 years ago he was geting 125 to run his water truck now he was getting like 80 and i was with him last year so you guys do the math it wont be that high much longer all u see up in williamsport is water trucks lol i mean ya if u dnt have kids n a wife n you wanna make money and have no weekend time go for it i just no the winter time is hell from what i heard ill just stick to driving for the feed mill being home at a decent time and having off weekend. i know im not really a truck driver since im home everynight am i ? i like it one day ill pull a hopper next day it might be a dump trailer or van trailer or bulk feed trailer so its nice to switch like that once in awhile but would like to find a company looking for a dump or walking floor or even hopper bottom

I'll stick to hauling milk I guess really have not heard much good lately on water hauling....
Thanks for passing along the info Kw900a.. -
I just moved to western PA and water hauling was all I heard about. It crossed my mind to do it but I never pursued it and thankfully I didn't. These well sites are sketchy to say the least, all these guys run around with chains, they work you to death round the clock and I honestly believe you can find just as good of work outside of these well jobs. I came on with a company up here doing bulk tanker work; cement, rock dust, fly ash, and I believe I do as well as those guys and don't work nearly as hard and work for a great family owned business that treats their guys #### good.
There are other options up here outside of the big money gas stuff but it's all in what you want out of a job, if you want no life and pretty good money then go for the gas work, if you want a good mix of money and homelife all you have to do is put in a little effort and you'll find it.EverLuc Thanks this. -
I get the 7 day 12 hour thing, but do you get ANY time off? (one weekend a month or so?)
I'm close enough to do it, too bad the pay is starting to slip. You'd think with such high turnover they'd keep the pay up.
Also, I guess the trucks don't have sleepers. And you have to do all the hustling on the well site. Probably two drivers per unit too.
Yeah I'd probably last a month too. Shame. -
Anybody know anything about the frac sand haulers ?? Where is it being hauled in from and who are the companies hauling it ??
-
Wayne W. Sell hauls the frac sand for a lot of the wells around here, Bulkmatic was also advertising over this way a few weeks ago. From what I hear in the few months I've been here is the pay is really good but it can be stressful work, not something I'd really be interested in. The company I work for did it up until last year and I've spoke with numerous guys here who said it was the first time they had ever made 3G's in a week. Like I said I definately think the money is there, but some of the places they go to would scare the living hell out of me, but then again you're from up this way so it might seem like a walk in the park for you.
groundpounder Thanks this. -
