Need work? South Texas Oilfield hiring like crazy!

Ben, just came upon this post. My husband is in North Dakota currently and they pay great, but cost of living is ridiculous and also they promise $120k year based on percentage of gross revenue, but there are many days he only gets load as there is oddly a shortage - maybe political or election driven, and some days there is nothing. So, I am not sure the pay end up being any more there at all. What's also kind of driving my decision is the fact that nobody out there offers insurance and we have a special needs son who needs good medical care and Texas Children's is the #4 position of 100 children's hospitals in the nation. therefore Texas seems to be a good match. He would go first from North Dakota, once he is established, we would come from Utah. So, more informaiton than I needed to give, but I was encouraged when I came across this post and wanted to know since you wrote it 9 months ago, do you have any other companies that we should into, and in south Texas, where would we find a decent affordable family friendly community to live. Aything else you can tell me would be great. How do you think the pay compares to North Dakota? Thanks for your time.

You should be good to go, with an out of state license. I have a WA license, and residence, and thus far have not had to change it.

As always, finding what if any "family friendly" is in a community to live in is only done by living there awhile but you may assume that in general Texas is good for being decent to people whom one has not met. The only place I have found that matches the achievement on that is Philadelphia .....

Cost of living tends to be generally lower - and significantly so - but to get that one has to distance from major centers of civilization as those are tending to match "global epicenter" costs and style, with some effort one can get 50-100 miles away from those and really lower one's cost of living to remarkable levels.

Finding what companies to talk to without being given "special treatment" by recruiter$ is needful of central work with absolute caution ~ it can be done but who / how & when is easily risk-intensive in a manner that does not reveal the nature of the risk.

Hi. I hope I'm not too late. Quick intro. I'm sure you've all heard the same story. I'm a 26 year old college graduate from NJ. The economy here is in the doldrums. I work at a job I dislike and there are few prospects on the horizon. I've always wanted to move West. I have no criminal history, no drug history and a clean driving record. I'm in good physical condition, I get along with near everyone and I'm willing to work hard. I want desperately to be apart of the oil boom that's taking place in states such as Texas and North Dakota; in any job capacity as long as it pays a living wage to start. I'm single. No family, no children, so relocation is not a problem. My biggest concern is, even though I want to, I can't simply up and leave to TX or ND to interview or apply without knowing if I can secure a job (my current job offers little vacation time and excessive absences will land you in the unemployment line). I have a good amount of money saved to put down on a home. Please. What can I do to get started toward my dream?

If you've never held a CDL, apply at Key Energy. If they think you are as good a candidate as you do, they will pay you about $14/hr while they train you to get your CDL and put you to work after that for about a dollar an hour more, probably driving a vacuum truck, and you'll get plenty of hours with overtime pay. IF you pass. That's up to you.

Halliburton and a few others hire Green Horns as well!, I would find a company in the oil fields and get on with them and let them train you and put you thru their training rather then going to a bottom feeder that will take anyone with a pulse, The oil field is going to be around for a long time to come, depending on the election I would say there is a good solid 40 years before it even starts to slow down, this country needs to become self reliant and self sufficient. I didn't need to put that but it explains my previous statement, I wouldn't even talk to truckers in your neck of the woods, they have no clue about your desires and dreams.
