I am applying for some jobs with Sunoco and the like in Corpus Christi. Anyone in the area have some insights into the locals? Daily life outside of your job?

Will anyone down there hire me with a DUI i got in 2010? Im a former Marine and a motor transport operator at that with three combat tours. Do you think there is anyway my military background could make that DUI an oversight? I'm really tryin to get down there and make some money! My buddy is workin for IPS driving a rig and hes pullin in over a 100k a year!

I drove by Flint today and noticed they had a banner hanging in front of their yard stating they are hiring CDL drivers. The office site is located in Victoria, TX near the intersection of HWY 87 and HWY 59...

Looks like more work for South Texas drivers......
Cornell Carriers LLC, a firm that transports and stores “frac” sand used in oil and gas wells, will nearly double its size this year to keep up with demand across South Texas’ booming Eagle Ford Shale. The San Antonio-based hauler expects to increase its fleet to 100 by yearend, up from a current count of 60. Payroll also will expand from 185 workers to nearly 250 over that time.

Yeah that didn't answer my question though. Will anyone hire me with a recent DUI? Im trying to see if its worth the money I'm gonna spend on getting schooled for my CDL. If I put myself through that and get my Class A and no one hires me because of my DUI that would be a HUGE waste of money! Any thoughts?

"You would have 30 days to apply for a Texas license. Information found on Texas Dept. of Public Safety web site states if you have a current Hazmat endorsement you can get a temporary 90 day endorsement when applying for new license. More info there about that requirement."
I have been told, not there yet so----- as long as you maintain an address where your license is from, you may not need to transfer everything. Makes it look like your a temporary worker. But I would ask what ever recruiter you talk to.

I agree Marine, but I don't know the answer to that question. I'm sure if that's all there is someone who will answer your phone call, I just don't know which one. There are tons of contractors in Texas, some may even send you to school (SNI) but as to the DUI, some will if it's over so much time, how much time? I dont know. Best answer is call and talk to one of them, up near Dallas and down by San Antonio seem to be the busiest.
Good luck sir from an old Sailor.

From what I've seen if you have a DUI that recent it will be tough to get someone to hire you. Not saying you can't, but a lot of companies I've researched want to know about DUI's in the past 7 years. All I can suggest is to find some companies that interest you and then research them the best you can. If they have a website they will likely list their requirements.
