Like Ridgeline said, you have to stay alert all the time. Other drivers are a huge hazard, especially when you're sharing a narrow lease road with soft shoulders. HOS is a joke in the oilfield, and you have no way of knowing who's been running for 24 hours or more.

You'll be driving in conditions you wouldn't think a big truck could handle. Lots of mud (and snow up north). I pull production water, so I'm on locations by myself. After a winter storm, I've gotten into the habit of walking the site before I drive on it. Makes it easier to find spots where I'm likely to get stuck.

Good advice on all points. Even on main highways I have had people make U turns in front of me at 75mph. Mainly water wienies but also some crude and sand cans. Will wake you wide up at 3am.

All the advice to get hired is posted again and again here. Craigslist or hit the bricks and go to companies.

The advanced search function is quite useful.... i mean atleast when i ask a question in here i make sure i searched for it first! Seems like some folks dont like looking for the answers on their own

Been putting in a lot of app's here in south Texas (Corpus Christi) area. Don't give up hope if a co doesn't call quickly, most companies I've applied for have taken 2 to 3 weeks to give you a call for interview. A lot of companies hiring in George West area. Had job offer from Key Energy Services as trans vac driver 12+ hour days, hourly rate. Had to turn it down because of the hour and half drive from corpus. Thomas Petroleum also gave me a call frac fuel driver 16.50 hr out of Robstrown, Tx. 80 to 100 hrs a week. Your not really driving much just babysitting the engines at a drill site when they run dry you fill em back up. Sunoco called today (applied 4 weeks ago) Flint Energy and Sun Coast has a recurring add hiring crude drivers on company website.
