I have some questions to add about being an owner operator and tanking crude oil....
1) What is a good rate to expect to make if you haul crude for someone? For example I know one company is seeking O/O and they are offering 68% of what the load pays but you are pulling their tanker with your tractor. Is this a good rate?
2) How many years experience do you need to have as a tanker driver before someone will hire you to tank their crude with your own rig?
3) I see offers from companies who need their crude tanked but they state "no old tractors". Ideally what age tractor do you want to purchase as a new O/O in order to get into tanking crude?
4) What is the biggest upside to tanking crude as an O/O and what is the biggest downside to doing it?
Thanks for your insight and answers!

Can a newbie who graduates in june 2013 haul crude right out of school. I have 1 speeding ticket on my recrod and 1 at fault accident where no one got hurt and it was due to icy weather conditions. thats all thats on my MVR in the last 3 years. How much can i expect to make and how hard do you think it will be for me to find work making 20+ an hour 70-80 hours a week?
-
@escobarn..... It will be impossible for you to make 20+ an hour starting out.....no one will hire you hauling crude with 0 experience....most companies require 2 or 3 years of experience...you will have to work your way up the ladder.........

Hello' Everyone, I sumitted application for a crude oil driver in Odessa, TX and got a called back interview, he offered me .95c/m, .25c/barrel, 50$/m cellphone, $1,000/year PPE and full benefit, no housing but will have a space for me to push a RV there if I have one. so, just want to ask someone here which is better? get pay by mile or by hour? I do have 3 years otr and now working for small company pulling dryvan and sometime hazmat loads, got .44c/mile and 3,000-3,500 miles every week noless on paper logs but no benefit and the truck always with me even my home time, also nice people to work with. Please give me some advices? I like to try out hualing tank and work with big company that all have full benefit but still not sure with company or pay should I start with. Thank you for all you guys.

There are several crude haulers that pay you base pay AND cents per mile, plus commission per barrel.
