I have been involved in hauling crude oil as a company driver,,business owner and back to company driver.

To be honest with you,, your husband will make around 250 to 350 a day if all loads are picked up that are assigned to him

I currently work for the largest crude oil hauling company in the nation,,as a company driver I average between 290 to 350 per day.

Even made as low as $179.00 for a days work.

But like I said it depends if all loads are hauled.

Some of the pumpers out thetre jump the gun and call in loads before they are readt..When that happens you end up rejecting the load and receive
$25.00 for the time spent getting too and from the location.

Other times he will be dispatched to a location that has a road that was washed out,,there again another reject,,another $25.00.

The way these companies pay is usually as follows..

.440 X the amount of barrels loaded X the freight rate.

Rarely do you find a load of crude oil that pays the driver over $100.

Now with the company I work for we make up the pay with our wait time. If a load takes more than 45 minutes to load,,then you start the clock. It goes the same for unloading. At the end of your shift you add all the excessive load and unload time to reach your hours,,round up by the quarter..Then you are paid $23.00 per hour for all work submitted.

As far as always moving,,not true..We are at the whims of the production companies..At the end of their fiscal year,,it gets slow for us as well. They stop drilling new wells and then that's it. Yes the older wells are out there,, but believe me they do die..They might produce a load of oil every four hours for the first few days they come on line,,then they are down to four loads a day,,then four loads a week maybe four in a month down to once a month.

Hauling crude oil is a good profession,,I will admit I make alot more than the OTR driver and I sleep at home every night.

I have affordable benefits for my family and a retirement plan that can't be beat.

But it is a profession that you aren't going to get rich on,,and you should never make big plans..We are a part of the oil field and I have seen it die over night and put alot of crude haulers out of a job.

Here in Western Oklahoma we have a rather large selection of companies to work for. It seems the third party carriers pay a little more than the actual companies do.,,But be ware,,the third party haulers are the first to go when it does slow down or when we get caught up,,they are also less likely to train their drivers properly to perform the job tasks. We have had nothing but problems out of all the third party carriers in this region. Everything from overfilling tanks,,spilling oil on location and since they are paid by the barrell,,we have caught them rigging thetr tickets to say they are hauling more than they really are.

But like I said,,if you want to make an honest comfortable living,,get home evry night and yes make more than an OTR driver you might want to check it out.

First of all...Who on earth is paying you .44 cpm? are they hiring?; I would tell that company that you'd like to experience the oil fields, then go work for the oil fields.....once the oil dries up in the area....go back to the .44cpm gig, ask them if you could just drive 2700 m/pweek...and since you saved 30% of what you made with the oil fields, you ought to be able to kcick it, baby :)

If you find someoen that'll pay you over $17 per/hr--- tell me and if i get hired, i'll give you $3,000 bonus. However, you might be able to find an oil field company or hauler that'll pay you $16 p/hr plus bonuses such as waiting time, cell phone, 401k, etc. whcih might end up averaging $20 or more per/hr... tha's if you are willing to living in youir truck with only bread and water, work odd hours, work at least 60 hours a week, and no idleing... i suggest you do OTR, then learn to be in control of the truck, how to do minor repairs, find directions, etc. including how to drive flatbed 11 hours straight 5 days a week/ 3 weeks days - 3 weeks nights; and how to drive reefer 8.75 hours a day for 28 days in a row (without a restart); and how to team drive a dry van across all lowwer 48... trip-planning so you never run out 0f hours, and always arrive 45mins prior appt time, and get good rest, and have goof of time, live on 5000miles per/week, and get along w/your partner; then train to ahndle a tanker....and finally, go live in N.DAKOTA for a couple of years and find out if it's really worth the $90,000 a yaer you'll make up there.

.95 p/m?!? That doesn't sound right. I'd say stick to your .44@3500 mile per weeks. I've been in TX now 2 weeks hauling crude and don't know of any company paying that. I got a brake and landed a $300 per day job with only 3 months experience. Housing here can eat up your cash fast so beware. Not to mention drill sites covering several 100k acres with maps that look like pirate treasure maps! Just sayin
