Love the note rockdoctor, but I've been banging on doors (maybe not enough) and have no keys yet. Would like to stay some where close to SA but will take what ever i can get. Any suggestions?

wowo6057, what are you looking to do? Haul crude, sand, water, or be an equipment operator in the oil patch. If you have 4 years exp then you should have no problem. I hear radio ads, see banners and billboards all the time looking for CDL drivers. Gold Spur is one that comes to mind, they have a yard about 40 min east of SA. It's really wide open down here.

Going with Rockdoctor as the first thing to observe I add that I am working Manta and will be sending letters to as many petroleum companies as I can afford to mail to asking for direct contact data for any and all field offices ~ it is find a field office and show up with C.D.L. able to pass basic screening and at that point if you can handle a water-truck you get put in the cab and go -- there may be 7-10 days or 3-4 days while such things as background check clear procedure but even for those who do not do so well at that it is likely that some sort of work may be found.

I have been working on this, what it appears to me is that one must locate the field-office as getting from central office - say in Houston - to the person who actually determines who is taken does not work in any effective manner.

Any ideas you have, please share them as there are people here who may end up stranded if they do not do the prior work as it is actually needed

Hey Rockdoctor, at this point I'm ot real picky. Would like water or frac. Dont know much about equip. opp. but can learn real quick. Will be "in the area" around the end of June so want to get some thing to look at or some one to talk to.

Have you used Indeed.com to look at the listings for the area you want. You simply type something like "CDL oil" and the jobs pop up from all kinds of places.

Also these threads have some great info. I've personally placed many jobs on here with company names and numbers I see while driving around.

If you are looking to haul crude and you have the experience, I know a lot of people feel Martin is great to work for. I know if you are just getting started in that then Sun Coast or Schneider will look at you. In between you have names like Gold Spur, Plains, Palletized. Quality Carriers, Gulf Mark, and one have I seen recently, Gazelle are some others.

As for sand, I see a lot of demand for that here. See some company called PSI running all over and I just listed a company last week who has a banner out by the Equalizer sand plant here in Victoria.

As for equipment moving and operating, I hear a lot of great things about Pioneer. See a lot of Baker Hughs, Halliburton, and Key Energy running all over this area.

You know, the city of San Antonio had to hold a job fair for the first time in 17 years to find some city drivers because everyone left for the patch. More money, who knew LOL!

I can tell you from experience, its VERY difficult to get a job in North Dakota "The Bakken" Oil Patch online. If you Google Bakken Jobs or North Dakota Oil jobs, you will notice dozens of YouTube reports from people who have "been there, done that". You need to GO THERE in person and attend a JobFair or similar. Some guys have even gone to a local strip club in Williston, and met some other dudes, and we given a recommendation, which can be a big help. Most jobs are labor intensive and/or long hours, usually both! Many driving jobs are posted on ND Workforce Connection website, and also all Major companies in the industry ie: Halliburton, Schlumberger, Weatherford, CUDD, etc.. Monster, Indeed, also have many listings and online application if you're registered with them. Good Luck to all those searching!!

Thanks Rock and oldskool, I am in So. Cal. and trying to get at least someone to talk to before I go next month. SNI is one route but I have been told it's 100 a week and 4 on 3 off. Not bad but may be some better. Gotta find out if they let you drive 5 days or 7 days. Can not get some one to answer the phone number at Sun Coast, and I didn't know about indeed. Also don't want to go to ND, white stuff comes out of the sky up there in the winter I don't like. lol
How do you find out about those job fairs? May just need to take a run out there as that's where i want to go, San Antonio. I hate to have a million questions but this is a huge move and dont want to just run. I have also heard some are offering relocation fees and company housing for awhile.
Thanks for all the info guys.

Kid.......If you want to talk with a decent company.....and maybe even work in the oilfields close to home, give that outfit a call. They have plenty of crude hauling positions (in California as well as up and down the central US), a decent reputation....and they treat their people right.
