Plains is a really great company. I worked for them a nearly 3 years here in Oklahoma. I am headed to Williston next week to work for Tundra. Start pay close to $30 an hour + time and a half over 40,benefits,and housing($700 mo)
I hope Tundra lives up to what they say...if not I'll head right back to the Oklahoma oilfield.

I like everyone's opinions and this is a tough choice. My husband is in Williston right now working in construction and he says the money is big. After all my research and seeing everyone's stories I agree with someone here it depends on your lifestyle and climate preference. We will be heading to TX but inside I know I prefer ND climate. From CA but lived in AK for a long time just can't handle heat, LOL. As far as money goes ND def wins for hourly wages.

I have a buddy that took a look around ND recently. $2800 for a 2BR shack, $11 for burger, fries and a drink at Hardies! LOL, I will stick with TX.
By the way, 4 cities in Texas make it into Forbes top 20 coolest cities. Houston was on top!
I'm not too sure that the extra money you can make in ND is worth it. Quality of life means something to some of us plus if you give it all away to the landlord, what's the point?gdyupgal Thanks this. -
We have operations in both places. ND the pay scales are notably higher, but as EVERYONE has noted, housing will cost you an arm and a leg, not to mention all the other amenities are MUCH more expensive... and they have to be, we're talking about a place that McDonalds pays 18.50 an hour, and gives a sign on bonus! Walmarts are so short handed they have begun to hang up signs stating they are hiring and don't drug test... oh, and then you also have to pay ND state income tax. Sales tax 5%
TX, if you can stand the heat and bugs, has a pretty good pay scale, housing is more abundant in MOST areas, and their is no state income tax in TX, so you keep more of your money. Sales tax 6.25%
In the end, it all comes down to what you want... do you want to make a bit more, but have to deal with the cold ND winters, the delays in flights etc... or do you want to make a little less and sweat in TX.
It's all a matter of preference I beleive. We have operations that thrive and expand in both locations, each with unique challenges to overcome, I don't truly beleive any one is better than the other. Just my $.02! -
I just PM you with some questions. Please revert back when you have time. Thanks JT

You are looking at two extremes for climate.
If you are a summer person or a winter person might make the choice easier.
Working over time in the humid triple digit heat would make me wanna move to ND to flip those burgers.
I handle cold way better than the heat and humidity. And that might make you a more productive worker being in your choice climate? -
I'm very greatful for the oportunities ND has given me ...I started out a newby driverr hauling FW. Then switched to Produuction and I now haul oil and I love it the best but as for me I've been here 22 yrs and ALOT has cchanged in that time so I'm headed south to concour the oil fields in TX...I feel very bless that with all the hustle and bustle here in ND that I've remained grounded and aware and I haven't had any incidents or accidents or spills..I wish everyone the best and good luck in either direction you go but Just remember here in ND unless you work for a company that provides housing &I utilities you might not be better off...I'm researching companies in TX now especially ones the have relocation incentaves....best of luck to all and feel free to msg me if you'd like info on ND to
