Sign me up for West Texas, too. I'm from Michigan, experience with chemical tankers. Anyone have any actual job leads, I'd appreciate a PM.

    TIA

My main thought when picking where to go was the weather lmao, Iam also from Michigan and cant stand the heat. The thought of having it be hot year round just makes me sick (I consider anything over 65 hot, so dont tell me Texas isnt bad in the winter). This is why I picked ND, there is money to be made out here and they have a real winter.

Currently who do you believe is working more hours (North Dakota or Texas ) . I currently have job offers from both areas, just not trying to go to a area which there is get money but poor hours .

As a whole? I would lean toward Texas. That's just based on what I know from our company and our competitors though.

I'm sure a lot of the drivers will chime in with their opinions. Congrats on the job offers!!!

Since I love Mathematics and have a little associates degree in Math; here's how I figure it mathematically.

    Example 1 Amazing house with large backyard! - $857 / 3br - 1760ft² - (Amarillo) img (Full Links on Craigslist Amarillo http://amarillo.craigslist.org/apa/)

    Example 2 3 bedrm 2 bath - $2300 / 3br - (nw minot) (Full Links on Craigslist ND http://nd.craigslist.org/apa/)

The examples were the top two up there this month. Now I'm going to compare the pay between the Lowest Market in Texas which I work in for Halliburton Mid com which covers Panhandle IE Amarillo TX and North to Western Kansas; Oklahoma and down to Alvarado Texas. The line stops at Midland Odessa Area. They get more then us; were the lowest paid area.

    The Numbers

Were going to take $20.00 an hour vs $15.00 an hour this is the avg I found to be good for drivers. Were going to base it off 5 days 14 hours take 6th off and work 14 on the 7th.

    84 hours is the total we get so 20 * 40 = $800 base 44 * 30 = $1320 so add the two you get $2120 a week (ND)

    84 hours is the total we get so 15 * 40 = $600 base 44 * 25.5 = $1122 so add the two you get $1722 a week (TX/Panhandle Area)

    Housing

2300 - 857 = $1443 difference in price not to mention Amarillo is a mini mega city which is 40-50 miles from Pampa TX .

Take 1443 divide by 4 weeks and you get $360.75 a week in the difference.

    Commute into Equation and intangibles.
This is where things get selective and vary depending on where you live and how you commute.

If you own a motor cycle then the gas commute from Amarillo to Pampa isn't a problem; and its cheap!

If you own a Car then the gas commute can be significant to $200.00 a Month. which brings down that price. I have a 6 Cly 97 Olds and a 4Cly 06 Camry. The wife uses the Newer :p vehicle. Both are in Excellent condition and look great.

Now lets zero in on the Variables; Last week I did 100+ hrs I put in 22.5 for 3 days straight at one point and only went home 2 times that's a quarter of a tank each up and down. So I used a half tank. It takes $20 dollar to do this as gas is $3.15 a gallon around here... Yes its Cheap :) Considering the rest of the country.

Now depending on who you work for this can be negated. Like once you make cementer you get a Company vehicle Ford F350; no gas problem at all. If your a Pump Truck Driver and your in good with your Cementer; he will most likely let you drive the F350 you both get called out together; you pick him up and you guys rock and roll.

So over all my conclusion is this; you can manage your commute cost so that this becomes almost a non issue to the cost. Now consider your quality of life. If your here in Texas your most likely no more then at most 1hr half drive away from a Mega City and 45 minutes from a Mini Mega City IE population 200-300K where there are restaurants no waits ect.

But if your in North Dakota and you are from the Area and have a house that you own. You Just hit the Jack Pot my Friend! You can negate the cost of living* For a while till the Taxes go up but by then if it last that long! Your going to be light years ahead if you plan right.

If your looking to Relocate; TX is going be a better bet unless you can negotiate a living arrangement that closes that $1443 Gap! Now if you take $1443 * 12 = $17, 316 a Year. You could take that money and in Two year Buy a $34K house in the Outskirts of a lot of mini cities free and clear. If you think like I do; that's the home of last Retreat.... If you do it for 3 years then You can get on the 50 Mile reach of a Mega City with 52K!

What ever you decide enjoy the Ride; were all making good money in this business; I don't care what anybody says! Hell I left the Service/Banking Industry making 50K. I have made that much in my 8months here so far; so I know were making good money and my cost of living is a helluva a lot cheaper then Seattle... I feel Upper Middle Class :)....

That's my take on it and thank you for reading.

ND is a great opportunity for single guys and guys who don't want to live with their families. I know guys grossing four grand a week by spending five days a week living in their trucks, on location or waiting in line to offload crude oil. However, be warned that the divorce rate goes up sharply for guys who don't sleep at home at night. The money is up there, but all of the OTR ills are very real. Choose wisely. Or, convince your wife and kids to live in a travel trailer...?
