Hey folks, to all of you out there curious about oil field jobs from the perspective of a Schneider driver that actually works in the field, here's the REAL scoop on how it works. I will do my best to answer all questions.

I drive a truck with a pneumatic trailer that delivers sand to a second party company called Schlumberger. The trucker lingo for sand pneumatic trailers is "sand can". We go to various sites throughout Ohio, West Virginia and PA even though we are mostly focused on WV lately. Our home terminal is based in Coraopolis, PA, pronounced Corey-opolis. We have sleeper trucks and daycabs. The pump is located on the back of the trucks. Our trailers are Polar trailers. All brand new equipment.

The pay is salary. $1100/wk gross. We get paid no matter what happens in the oil field, so if we are down for 2-3 days waiting to be called out, we still get paid. Every week we get paid for 5 days no matter what, but, if within that week we work an extra day on top of the 5 days we have already worked we will get an extra days pay which comes out to 1/5th of our weekly salary.

We are home everyday. We run all legal logs. No electronic logs yet, but it will change soon. The only exemption we utilize in the oil fields is that we have a 24 hr reset instead of the 34 for OTR drivers.

Well sites can be anywhere from 1-3 hrs drive from home terminal. The one thing you will need to get used to in this industry is the wait time. For most OTR drivers, it will take a couple weeks to get accustomed to.

I have recently considered pursuing work in the oil/gas industry and just saw an add for driving opportunity by Schneider on RigZone for the KS, OK and TX areas. This would be closer to home as I live
an half hour West of Lincoln, NE. Would this be the same/similair type of work you are doing, and is there a web site I can go to? I like to know details before I start filling out applications. Be Safe and
    Thank You in advance!

Hi Moose, I think the guys in KS, OK and TX do a lot of crude driving, but don't quote me on that. Some of the guys trained for fracking division do something called "Drive Away Tow Away" which is a division that moves Frac pumps, sand chiefs, blenders, etc. from site to site. You would have to go on the Schneider website and fill out an application and wait to hear from a recruiter or there may be a direct line to contact the recruiter. You would have to look that up as well. Good luck to you. -CZ

Good info stranger, glad to see someone with a "in the field" point of view, seems most of whats posted is second hand info & rumors.

Thanks for the update, I've been looking for drivers on other accounts to explain their Schneider energy account. Also check out our account in Victoria...

Just curious, $1100/week seems quite different than other posting where I have read $75-$80/yr.
    Thanks

It's not ND oil patch wages, but it's still much better than bottom-feeder OTR wages.

I haul fresh water in ND, and I gross $1600 for a 60 hour work week, driving for an established North Dakota home-grown oil patch company. There's also a lot of unestablished companies starving for work right now.

So is your energy account any better than the Schneider account in Victoria?

At times, I see conflicting information and threads about Schneider. I understand that in some cases they will take and train tanker-yankers right out of school with zero experience. What level of experience do they require for the jobs in the oil field? Is there a waiting list for these jobs? The balance in pay and hometime would suit me well...

I have an email for Schneider, and am working dozens of (potential) leads, SNI is an excellent carrier overall but any operation no matter how good or bad or even neutral will get the bad remarks even if they dont get the good ones.....duh,...

Okay, so your sidebar says WannaBe wit four posts - I will send you the link for FFE which is right at the level of SNI but definitely ahead on the recruiter portion of the front-end ~ with FFE it is 21/3 so if you are looking for hometime maybe SNI at -{ hey, gostwriter => snag this!!... }- maybe the Victoria account for SNI might be the place for you
