Hi! I am planning to go to North Dakota for a few days next week to look for a tanker job hauling crude oil or water.
Currently I am an OTR tanker driver for a major tracking company. I have been on the job for 6 months and that is all the truck driving experience I have. Clean driving and criminal record.
I have been reading the posts here and other places but the information I need is too dispersed and sometimes outdated.
Could you please give me a list of companies which haul oil and/or water in North Dakota. Also, any comment on any of them would be greatly appreciated - for example "do not apply here because you will be wasting your time with your limited experience"
Thank you very much in advance for your help! Going there, knowing where to apply to, is going to help me use my short stay efficiently.
Thanks!

Hi Petreza...I see your from SF what do you haul there? In my opinion I think everyone comming to ND to haul fluids should start on fresh water...reason being is even though you probably haul fluids now and are used to roller coaster roads with unbaffled tanks our roads here can be a challlenge especially in the winter..but they are sooooo much fun..I love it..k back to my reason..hauling fresh water is usually alot bussier and your going to alot more places and faced with Alot od differant site situations and I'd say about a lil more the 1/4 of your driving is in reverse and you'll get a btter idead of the kind of area you'll be in with out the worries of Hazard such as spilles..they are really cracking down on stuff here now...now I might be wrong but you might have a hard time landing an oil hauling job fisrt but you never know..I haul Oil now but I started out with Fresh then Dirty then Oil...as far as companies well it's kind of a crap shoot now...companies have way more applicants then before...if you have a camper or RV your better off unless you land a company that offers housing likke Key but also if you take company housing and fore whatever reason you leave job or get laidoff or terminated the your also homeless...Wishing you the best of luck..lotsa money to be made but takes lotsa money to be here also

This is in no way to discouage anyone from North Dakota but the fact of the matter is things have changed drastically in the 2 yrs I've been here...most big companies all require online aps now so even if you are on there door step you will have to go through there procedure and that is a 2 to 4 week process...I lucked out comming here 2 yrs ago when companies were strugling to find workers now ND is flooded and companies can be pickier...cost of living is out of control...it's not bad for me because I don't have anyone but me to support but it's a struggle for family men trying to keep things afloat here & where ever they live...but I can list a few compniea for you who are main contractors...I work for a subcontractor now hauling oil.

Thanks for your replies! I will be in ND on Tuesday for only a few days. Yes, it appears most big companies want you to apply online and going there in person will be of limited use. I already applied at MBI but am not holding my breath as they say they process 150 apps a day. But I will pass by their office all the same. Power Fuels appears to have more drivers than they have work for right now. Will pass by their office all the same.
I was hoping for an advise on some of the smaller companies that you don't normally hear about on online forum. Places where being there in person WOULD make a difference. Places where they will be willing to compromise on my limited, 6 months OTR tanker experience.
Anyway, the tickets are already bought. Wish me luck (this time - tried already once, straight out of CDL school).
Thanks in advance for any advise you might have.dukeofearl Thanks this. -

Just an update. Got to ND on Tuesday.
MBI - still revewing my app
Power Fuels - not taking apps until end of September
Saw a sign "Drivers Wanted" so I went in to ask. Crude hauling - 2 years exp. minimum. But they were very frendly and gave me a couple of leads for water hauling.
I am not going to bother with crude only companies but will concentrate on water hauling until I get enough off-road experience.
Wrote down the names of a bunch of tanker hauling companies as I was driving from town to town so if I don't have a strong lead I have something to work with.
That's it for now. Wish me luck.gdyupgal and dukeofearl Thank this. -
Looks like I am wasting my time. Nobody is interested in a guy with 6 months experience. Should have stayed in Texas and looked around there.
