Hi all, I'm new to this board. Thank you for all the useful info. I'm based in Vegas, have 10 years experience. I worked in N. Dakota in 2011, & came home when the cold hit. I was planning on going back up this last summer but, my wife was diagnosed with brst. cancer so stayed close to home. No good paying jobs in Vegas, tho! So, now I'm looking to either go back up to N.D this spring, or over to Texas. We have friends in the Austin area, who are snowbirds there. So, my question is- Is there trucking work locally in/around Austin that pays good? How far is the oilfield from there? I drive dbls, trples, flat, end dump, belly dump etc. Have OTR experience, but, kinda want to stay closer, cuz of my wifes health, plus we have a 2 yr. old. Any ideas, are appreciated, Thanks!

Vegasman...I'm just now about to get my CDL, so others here on the forum can probably shed a more realistic light on the job availability. I can say that there are plenty of ads and there are supposedly plentiful jobs in the Eagle Ford Shale oil fields (south of San Antonio). That's why I've decided to get my CDL. With your experience I wouldn't imagine you would have a hard time, but then again I'm a newbie.
Sorry to hear about your wife...hope all turns out well. Good luck.

Thank you, Dave. So far she is doing great! I have a couple of questions for you-
How is the economy in Austin? Is there work? I also have cement mixer experience, Is there that kind of work in the area?
Do you know of a good website that has info on the area too? I heard schools are good there, do you know?
Thanks, in advance. I appreciate your input!

Check Craigslist Austin Transportation; also both Conway and Averitt are hiring for local gigs in Austin; Schneider is hiring for oil fields if you live within 50 miles of San Antonio
