What is a decent "sponsor" company that will hire their graduates to work in the oil field? Specifically tankers. I know Stevens does. But what about Swift and Prime? I thought Schneiders have a new training school? Any other "sponsor" companies out there in the oil fields? Thank you.

Thanks for your answer, chinatown. Next question, does anyone know if oil companies usually hire around next month through February? I know that January-February is almost always dead/slow for all companies, but do they still hire people? I can't decide if i should get my CDL now or wait till Spring. Thank you.

can anyone answer my second question? Thank you.

The oil patch has always been cyclical, but it's not necessarily seasonal in Texas. If I were in your position, I'd get the license as soon as possible and start knocking on doors with license in hand.
cuzzin it Thanks this. -
I'm from San Antonio. After a few years contracting in Iraq decided to try the oilfield trucking. Got my CDL with hazmat and tanker and started with the resumes. Sent in about twenty five. Received call backs from seven. Always the same, no experience, no hire.
Am now driving for one of the big training companies. Was told by four of the oilfield companies they would hire me with a year driving.
"Scuttlebutt" around was Stallion would hire someone fresh out of driving school, but I had already decided to get a year OTR first.
As far as hiring during winter, a lot of drivers will stop working when it gets cold and go with another company when it warms up. (I know you guys from up north will laugh at that, but being from Texas, anything below 40 is cold, not chilly, and god forbid it gets below 20, I'll not want to stick my nose out the door). -

My family will be moving to Texas in the coming months. I have been looking at the current oilfield driving positions. It's not like the old days of $30 per hour, etc. Most companies like Stevens Transport are only offering $15 per hour and 12 hour days. Drivers are working 6 days on and 1 day off. When they have enough drivers, they will be cut back to 5 days on and 2 days off.

I just got a job with a local company driving a vacuum truck and they are willing to pay me 17.25 per hour with no driving exp 12 hour days 6 days on 2 off from what i gathered from people that have worked there for a while said the reason this company can pay good is because they own their own saltwater disposals so they can charge the production companies x number dollars for disposal and their still making that money where companies that have to take the water to other peoples disposal are only making money to haul the water check out Key Entergy I think they are almost everywhere in texas But go by the saltwater disposals and see what trucks are there and what company is on the sign at the entrance

Hello Everyone,
I'm a new trucker who got his start in the oil fields. I know I had a lot of people help me online and out here in the patch. I'm posting videos of my journey on youtube if anyone is interested in following a greenhorn getting started in the oil patch.
Stay safe out there.
