Question about Frac Sand hauling. 25% of gross?

was just offered a job here in texas with a company hauling frac sand. he said pay is 25% the gross load. is that good? bad? can someone here give me an idea of how that translates into $dollars? i wanted to get the straight dope from you guys rather than just let this guy convince me i'm going to be making all kinds of money. thanks for the help

Hard to say what it will translate to dollar wise, depends on what his rate is. But it's pretty much the norm, actually a little better than most. Again, it all depends on what the loads are paying.

well if that's the normal rate, that's at least a good sign. and he said after 90 days it bumps to 26%, 1yr= 27%. just wish i had a ballpark idea of how much a load is worth ya know

also i kind of worry about getting stuck out on these frac jobs that last for days with no hourly pay. i used to work cement on the drilling rigs and if we got stuck on a job it was awesome because we're getting paid ~$30/hr overtime to kick back in our sleepers, haha.

Well if he's not offering you an hourly wage for sit time then I would not take it, there's too many variables that can have you sitting for hours on end. When I moved to PA I was paid 23% with 15 an hour after the first hour of sit time.

Just ask them to provide you a copy of their rates. I currently make 25% and do pretty good. When I worked in PA i was making 26%, but the company had lower rates so i moved on. The detention pay is nice and mostly around $12-16 an hour. I'm currently 14 hours into my detention at a well outside Gonzales, TX right now.

hopefully just got hired with a company that will pay 26% with $20/hr detention. when i asked about their rates the secretary didn't seem to understand what i was asking. But just based on those numbers she gave me, that sounds pretty nice. Surely one company wouldn't have rates drastically lower than the industry average, right? Surely this will put good money in my pocket, right?? lol. we shall see. thanks for the help

Sounds like "blue streak transportation". When I was in Odessa I did pretty well running sand there for Silverline. I can only give one piece of advice above all else......... Stay as far away from the "Warfield" truck stop as possible!!!!!!!

Do you remember the Star Wars scene where Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) said to Skywalker of the Mos Eisley spaceport, " you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. You must be cautious". That pretty much describes that truck stop.
