Who in their right mind would work in an oil field for $18 an hour? You can drive anywhere you want, and be home every night, for that kind of pay. The bottom feeder companies would not be able to exist, if drivers would stop working for peanuts.

Well, no you can't drive "anywhere" for that kind of pay and be home every night. I'm a Florida native and you will not find that kind of pay in Florida unless you luck up in to a freight position with Estes, or Southeastern and companies like that. I guess I'm a bottom feeder driver because I work for less than what you would conisder bottom feeder wages, 16 an hour? I swear some people have it all figured out, have you ever thought there's people out here who are happy to make 50K plus a year, some of you drivers act like we all should be robots and only work for 1,500 per week and no less, then the standard will become 2,000 and before you know it guys like you Truck-N-Tech will be saying anyone working for 5 g's a week are working for bottom feeder companies!

Sorry Trash, you took my point the wrong way. I was not saying that $18 an hour is not good. Heck, in some cases, $12 an hour is OK. What I was saying is that the tough grind that you have to go through to work in an oil field, should pay a whole lot more. working in an oil field is not all fun and games. It's hard work. North Dakota has some tough weather to deal with. Above all that, it is dangerous work. All that deserves a very high rate of pay. The problem is that some of the big companies pay their drivers $18 an hour, while they are being paid $35 or $40 an hour for their driver being there.

After I re-read TNT I had thought I might have read it wrong, sorry to get snippy in the response. Oil companies here in PA rarely pay over 18 an hour from what I see, but I don't know if the pay scale is different given we're drilling for natural gas here rather than raw oil.

One thing.....105 hours seems like alot, but less than half of those are spent actually doing "labor" or "hard work".
The oilfield is just like trucking, it's not the same everywhere and you got to find your niche. -

Yeah your right TLeaHeart , a expienced guy doesn,t like to be lied to either. I was told your in everything looks great, but we have small orientations. A small group in orientation tells me there hiring 6 month to 1 yr newbies, they need special one on one training. And just playing around with exp drivers, saying you start in 4 weeks. Another driver on this thread says they don,t pay OT, I believe the driver. Insurance after 90 days, that,s prob a lie too, no other benefits. I would think there reefer guys have a 401k and vacation, yet nothing for the tankers. Recruiters do both reefer and tanker, reefer seems to be the priorty. CR England and Werner are problably next to jump in with tankers , let the lies begin. I,m glad I didn,t start with them, now I can go after a good job.
