For what it's worth, there is a used car dealership right smack dab in the middle of town. I'm sure they are overpriced junk, but if you needed a ride and had cash prices seem to drop.
As for the person who asked about staying in the motel. I know of only one and it's going to totally eat up half your paycheck.

Thanks unloader, I'm in NE San Antone, still a killer. I agree, 13 hour days I'm not going to drive an hour home and would prefer my own space. I'll call Stevens and check out the cabins in detail, thanks again for the good info.

Right my own space after long work shift. I looked at hotels down there one was $50 a nite I could deal with that at least 4 nights out a work week. I thought abt renting a car just to drive back & forth but the Bulverde area to Stockdale daily would be a killer

Does Stevens work with that college in Gonzales to help get a CDL? I have a CDL, but 0 experience so I fear I may have to go through school again. At least a refresher course.

I'm looking into Stevens Tanker to get my foot in the door down in the oilpatch. Their ad on Craigslist said they have housing available in all areas. Can anyone elaborate on this at all?
-
Housing in Dilley was #### near non-existent although they insisted there would be something available eventually.
Jacksboro had more options. A room at the Knights Inn which was $200 per week which I found reasonable. They make $1 per less up there.
I've been with Stevens for five months. It's a decent company and a total cluster #### at times. Paid hourly though, so the circle jerk only benefits my paycheck. Some guys can't seem to not get frustrated with it though. 60-70 hours per week. Decent equipment. Most guys in Stockdale commute from San Antonio, Seguin, Floresville, and other surrounding areas. A lot of guys wash out due to the schedule. Add in an 30-45 minute commute and you can see how the diminishing returns on sleep will catch up to you.
Other's network with other companies (you will talk to other drivers at disposals) and jump for greener (at times much greener) pastures chasing the all mighty dollar. There are several vac companies down here that pay grossly more per hour and some offer daily per diem on top of hourly pay.

I don't know why anyone would work for Stevens. 18 an hour for oil field work is god awful. I just got hired on by a company starting at 25 an hour then time and a half after 40 with zero oil field or tanker experience. It's not hard. Just browse Craigslist and hit up companies that are trying to fill positions asap. Even if they say they want x amount of experience they will take you if they don't get a lot of applications.

Xai, can/will you share what company you are with? Are you in Texas? If so what part? Very interested.
