I agree with Big Duker. Different strokes for different folks. You do what fits your life and don't look back. Good luck.

I've been thinking this same route. I commend you for your decision! It may not be glamorous, but it's a steady job, with benefits, fits your lifestyle, and you're home every night!

    What's not to like?

Once you get to that $25/hr mark... you will be making wages comparable to oilfields. Whether there is a difference in annual earnings will depend on how many hours you are working.

The thing about oilfield work....it may or may not be booming 10 years from now. You have a union job that pays good and probably has an awesome retirement package. That is hard to beat. The oilfields are great for those who live in areas where there is a lack of good jobs available. If you have a decent option at home...like you had... I would advise staying put...just like you did.

Don't ever regret or second guess yourself, having regrets suck and it is time consuming trying to figure out if you are happy with what you are doing or could be doing something else.

Also as long as you are not working in the city of Detroit, then you picked a safer job. If you picked driving for Detroit, then I would say doing anything in the oil field is safer.

You made the right choice. The oilfield has dumped me three times in my life. Swore I would never go back to it. Well after 13 years as a firefighter, I'm back in the oilfield. Making good money right now but just waiting for the bottom to fall out again. It will happen maybe tomorrow or 20 years from now. You have a guarantee of 25.00 in 5 years. You can't go wrong with that and the bennies you will get. If I had that opportunity, I would be all over it. Don't second guess yourself.
