Other notable places to work besides TX and ND?

Here is our dilemma. My husband has worked as water vac trucker for a good year in South TX. He worked prior in ND(non oilfield work). We got into some problems and basically he had to take a break to do a favor for someone elsewhere. It has been 5 months now since he worked in oilfield. We will be over this "problem" around April of next year and he will immediately want to go back to oilfield truck driving. His job is open at prior company but when he was there he noticed some games they were playing with drivers(I know don't they all) and he would like to look elsewhere.

Since we are a open canvas right now and can pretty much go anywhere I was wondering about the oilfield work in other states mainly Wyoming or Colorado. We do like Texas and all and is where we will prob go back to but out of curiosity I wonder if it is the same wages and workload. I have seen here some talk but never really seen much talking. To be honest we are much so cold weather people and Texas just I don't like the climate there. Even the colder climate there. My allergies are unbearable and well some other little nuisances. I know this is nitpicking and will be alright if we end up there again. ND is cool too but the housing prices and the school system is what turns me off. We will stick together something that worked out great in TX.

    Any suggestions or experiences? :biggrin_2557:

Look for companies from Gillette, Casper, Douglas, Wheatland, Cheyenne Wyoming, and Greeley, Windsor Colorado.
Western Wyoming from Rawlins, Rock springs, Green river, to Evanston, and north to lander.
Wages in Wyoming are not as high as North Dakota, but the cost of living is less. Wyoming has lived through the boom bust cycle of the oil patch.

Thanks for info! Do you know if the wages are like Texas or maybe slightly more? What about hours?

WAges for vac trucks seem to be running $18 to $22 per hour, with 60 to 70 hour weeks the common.

Craigslist is a good place to look. The transport section under jobs. Just look at all ads and compare carefully. Plenty of low ballers there

Wyoming has 4 seasons of weather. We get cold, past week below zero with wind chills of -30. This year we are having a more normal winter, with snow fall every 3 to 4 days of an inch or 2. Today we have a southwest wind, 32 degrees and melting..winds 20 to 40 mph.

Spring is wet, muddy, and snow is possible in may.

Summer, 60 to 90 degrees, light winds, afternoon showers.

Fall, 40 to 70, dry, light winds. can snow in october.

Cell service is spoty in the fields, since the closest bar is 20 miles away. Very small towns.

There is work here, but the companies are checking abilities and references. Many are requiring 1 to 2 years driving experience.

I have been working in NE Wyoming/SE Montana for the last 3 and a half years or so. Originally this was going to be temporary until something opened up closer to my home in central New Mexico(about 300 miles from the Permian), but I am getting to like this place more as time goes on. There are opportunities here, but you DO need to have experience as TLea said. I spend more time in the Gillette-Douglas area than anywhere else in Wyoming. There are help wanted signs up in Douglas and the Gillette News-Record is running more oilfield help wanted adds than I remember in the past.
