My wife and I are looking into moving to San Angelo sometime in the next month or 2, and I wanted to look into working in the oilfield driving a truck. There is plenty of work out there from what I can see, and it shouldn't be too hard to find a job

    except...

I have 3 tickets on my license. All 3 are improper lane (being in the wrong lane) tickets, and 2 of them are from the same instance in MD. I am currently working with an attorney in MD to get the 2 tickets dismissed, but the court date keeps getting pushed back. The 3rd one falls off of my record later on this year. Each ticket is worth 1 point...

except in Florida where any minor moving violation is worth 3 points. So I have 9 points on my Florida license right now, and it killed me looking for a local job this past summer. Employers see the points and run away...and I don't blame them. I plan on getting a Texas cdl asap anyways which WILL reduce the points down to 3...and if I can get the MD tickets dismissed, I'll only have 1 point. Anyways...I've already talked to Chalk Mountain, and couldn't get them to tell me much of anything except that they would run me through their automated system and, if they called me back, I was good...obviously.

So my question is; am I hire-able in the local oilfield market, or am I wasting my time?

And before a couple of you start with your 'o holier than thou' bs, I screwed up and I know it, but there's not a #### thing that I can do about it now...and that is not what this thread is about.

Do you have your tanker and Hazmat endorsement? If you do, somebody will hire you.

plenty of work around san angelo. head down 67 south toward barnhardt several companies on that road with signs wanting drivers. I don't know how the tickets will hurt you but I bet one of them will hire you. chalk mountain will only offer you night shift 7 to 7 or 6 to 6.

this is what you will need to transfer your cdl to texas.#1 birth certificate #2 ss card # your vehicle has to be taged and insured in texas.#4 2 forms of proof of residency[rent recipe water bill or power bill]and of course your current cdl and medical card. you also have 25 days from the time you get to texas to get this done. when you go to dmv don't tell them you been there any longer than 25 days. all this info came direct from dmv. they are located on foster rd off of the 306 loop south side.

What happens if you are only working there, but your home remains where the family lives?

Points aren't just taken at face value by lots of companies. My company hauls gasoline, ethanol, jet fuel, diesel, other stuff. Your points are automatically TRIPLED the 1st yr issued. After a yr they come down to double and 3rd yr actual point value. So any serious violation can get you gone pretty quick.
So you would be coming in w/9-27 depending on how they chose to do it. They are dead serious about their safety record and so are a lot of others hauling HazMat and dangerous loads. In return they pay us well and do a pretty decent job of maintenance and paperwork and benis. Do all you can to get as many of those off your record as possible to allow you to get on with decent company. Lots of cheese eating rats who will be fine w/you living in a worn out Shaker at a Stripes or Loves parking lot and wading through the piss lake from the other 75 +.
