    Yes but how far away from the yard can I live? In my case I would like to settle up in Arlington, Ft. Worth area, but work in West TX or South TX. I've only come across one job ad that stated limits on how far employees can live from the yard. Schlumberger says 350 miles is the furthest their guys can live from the yard. Security58, thanks for the heads up! I put apps in with Baker Hughes. Seems like the big companies are the easiest to get on with no experience.

    You sure about that? Have you looked at crime ratios, school ratings, and cost of living differences outside of oilboom inflation? San Antonio is heavily military influenced whereas Midland/Odessa is more blue collar. Both are rather dirty and have their bad areas, and both have nicer areas. If you are looking for more city living, then San Antonio is the clear winner, but I don't think I'd say it's much nicer.

    "Much" was a strong word. I immediately take it back. Wifey just wants something with a bit more suburban sprawl, i.e. malls and convenience. I personally would rather be a bit more isolated, but, a man would be wise to keep the Mrs. happy. Security58, do you work in South TX? Or West? Driver? Or Equip Operator? Thanks again for the heads up.

    San Antonio is a dump. A big one. More people then Dallas. At least inside Dallas limits. And lots of criminal illegals and bangers. There are some nice areas like in all big cities. If I had to choose it would be W TX for sure. Or I would have to be in a smaller town outside San Anton like Seguin, Devine, New Braunfels , others. Boerne has gotten too crazy and expensive.

    Sorry to hear that. New Braunfels is nice. Took the family to the water park there a few years ago, it was a great day. A bit south of Austin is another option but again, not sure if frac yard will allow me to live that far.
