Can you give us any insight into the lifestyle living in a truck in the oilfield vs OTR? Where do you park at night? Do you have access to showers? What about shopping for food and other supplies? Do you have access to a car? If so, where do you keep it when not using it?

What kind of truck driving school did you go to? How many hours of driving and class? Thanks.

Mrs. Stryker here. My husband attended the Professional Trucking program at CWI a community college here in Boise/Nampa Idaho. I believe when was done they had put in around 200 hours. I know the companies that he talked to out there said it helped being from Idaho too since he had winter driving experience in general.

Paperlogs. 20% to start. 21% after 90 days. Detention varies by customer. Average 15/hr. When busy detention is great paid to sleep. Terminal assignments depend on where you apply/interview. Nd is not mandatory unless you apply here. Some drivers rotate to where it's busy. Some don't. We get a lot up here from CO terminal since fraking there has slowed. Over the road division has been hiring so a couple guys from ND are transferring there (IL) On call 24/7. Another transferred to NM. Not forced dispatch. Run hard when it's busy ... chill out when it's slow. Days off are flexible, scheduled 30 days out.
Fyi All 18 speed Petes. If you can't shift your application ends in the yard. Happens way more often than you would think.kiwi23 and Rodeorowdy Thank this. -
showers at yard or truckstop. Walmart for supplies.
company pickup for supply runs. Parking in yard for POVS. Usually a crowd goes out to Applebees, BW3, Jdubs etc when slow, can always catch a ride.
Company has drivers lounge kitchen, grill TV , showers, laundry, wifi open 24/7. No alcohol allowed. Shop open 0730-1800. on call mechanic's rest of time. Wash bay open 24/7. Trks have micro/fridge.
Most guys run 2-5 days until they need DEF then make a trip to yard for laundry shower resupply and any maintaince/repairs.Last edited: Apr 30, 2014

Thanks for those answers. It gives me good insight. How far do you travel from the yard?

Hebron and Stanton are the longest regular loadouts both about 180 miles from Williston.
