so i got the measurement charts finished and again thanks for you guy's help. One more question. When figuring out how much crude is in the tank with the guage line besides the way i know. what are some other ways figuring out the level when the crude is about mid way or less. I usually tell the guys drop the gauge line in until you see rippling then subtract whatever number is on the rim of the guage line with the height of the tank. Thats usually where the crude is. Is there a better gauge line to get or see accurate measurements?

Havent gone through reading responses but basically on a 20 foot tall, 400 barrel upright 1 foot is 20 barrels and 1 inch is 1.67 barrels. The math to figure out anything else is pretty simple involving those.

To better see the liquid level on a gauge line, use baby powder or gauging paste.
If your gauge line has a black strip along the bottom, hold it so that the sun is reflecting off the black strip. This will make it easier to see the liquid line.
If you're gauging at night, use a headlamp (or flashlight) with red light to read the gauge line.Last edited: Jun 7, 2014
