Anyone know OXY's pay structure? Hourly/percentage and rate?

I put in over 8 hours yesterday filling out apps and calling companies.

Got a call back from Sunoco today.

If everything goes good, I should be contacted by a hiring manager withing a week or two.

Either way, my car is packed. Midland is on the radar. Should be there tonight.

If I aint hired on hauling crude within 4-6 weeks, I will be then targeting Vac Truck and man camp living!

if you get in with the sunoco I would try to go to San Angelo yard. Midland is expensive.

Yesterday I spoke to a crude hauling outfit about working for them and relocating to Midland. He said housing is expensive and hard to come by so he could not take my application unless I had a signed lease. Definitely thought Midland was a lot bigger and would not turn into a Williston, ND so quick.

If I were going to go back to West TX, it wouldnt be to Midland. San Angelo was a good place to live in my opinion. Abilene is good if you can stay busy. Honestly...if I were to go back to TX, it would likely be to the Houston/San Antonio areas. I love the work in Oklahoma...but as mentioned before...the money is off a bit. Some days, I can do as good as TX, but most days...not. I guess the better days were just more consistent down there.

I got here to Midland last Tuesday evening.
Pizza Delivery was my gig for many years some time back.
When I was in truck driving school, I delivered pizza full time...it paid the bills and then some.

Wednesday morning, I signed a lease to a bedroom in a house. Furnished, access to the entire house including the laundry machines. $500 per month.
I was delivering pizza that afternoon and in the past four nights I have worked 50 hours and I go in tonight too.

As far as tips go, Midland has to be the most unbelievable location to work delivering pizza. If your good, like me, you can make $15 cash per hour on tips plus your hourly.

OT is ALL open because they cant keep workers here in Midland and the fact that the businesses are very busy...Besides, all the smart and ambitious folk are in the Energy Sector not Food Service.

The store where I work is the highest weekly grossing store in the entire state of Texas.

So, if I keep delivering and work 70 hours a week, I can make 50-70K per year.

Turns out the whole idea of coming here to Midland has been working out so far.

I have been hitting the streets during the day and filling out apps online.

Sun Coast is here in Midland. The have online job postings stating they will hire right out of school so I applied.

Got in contact with the recruiter, but turns it may not be that simple. Waiting to talk again tomorrow with the Manager in charge of recruiting.

Sunoco recruiter was cool. He had sent my info to all the hiring manager in Texas. Said it could be a week, week and a half. I will be following up with him tomorrow as well.

Went by OXY's office. Receptionist gave me a number to call. It did not work. I filled out various apps online with them. She said it could take a few weeks before I am contacted.

I applied to Atlas....No word yet.

SO for the time being I am going to begin filling out apps for my secondary position of choice. Vac Truck.
If I have to get my experience in Vac and then haul crude...so be it.

This week I will be delivering pizza and continuing the push for Crude

Good job Chris! That is how to be resourceful and make it happen. Give the crude companies some time. They don't get in any hurry. You have a place and an income... time is on your side at this point.

Suncoast pays by the hour as I understand it. I think that will work to you advantage as a new driver. It will also work to your advantage out there on those HUGE ranches trying to find a tank battery off a hand drawn map... a lot of which, really, really suck...lol.

The Suncoast recruiter said they don't haul much condensate here in West Texas and that I would more likely be able to get on in South Texas.

Yes, they do pay by the hour.

Would be nice to bypass the recruiter and get straight in contact with the hiring manager. Suncoast receptionist says I have to go through a recruiter so that is a bit more challenging. I spoke to a couple different recruiters the other day in different regions of Texas. I don't seem to be too desirable without the experience.

I know that somebody is going to hire me on, I just want to be picky because I don't want just any job. I am looking long term and want to get in with a big company. Time will tell If I will be left with no choice but to drive Vac Truck for 6-12 months.

Like I said before, I will give it about a month before I take a different position other than Crude Hauling, but will go ahead and apply for the heavy hitters such as, Basic, Nabors, Key and any other one I find throughout this week.

I have even considered contacting an Oklahoma recruiter for Sunoco. I figure that may put a bigger fire under the recruiter here in Texas. I think I just may ask him tomorrow for the number... :biggrin_255:

You'll have something soon enough. Sounds like you might be able to choose between more than one gig when you won't expect it. As you're new, make sure you get on with someone who is reputable and large enough to offer good training. Don't look ONLY at the money!

And, enjoy the pizza! Free eats is a great fringe benefit! :)

Saw that Sun Coast has lots of ads up for drivers in Edna, Houston, and Corpus and paying a $6K sign on bonus but the ad said you need 3 years exp.
