The only real place where dirt can enter on a Thermoking is where the radiator and fan are, they do have a small radiator. The rest of the unit should be sealed. Mine was with foam tape. Wouldn't be hard to make up a fan cover for it. But it only takes five bolts to hold the cover on top and it would be a good opportunity to check it over after a wash.
