If you could find a company with sleeper trucks that doesn't require you to sleep at their yard, you could stay pretty isolated most of the time... once you are through training. I've seen a lot of third party crude haulers who pretty much have it to themselves. I see some water haulers that might be.... but I don't know enough about that to say much.

You will have to be very disciplined in how you do your job though. There are a LOT of policies and procedures to learn in the oilfield. They are there to prevent spills and injuries...for good reason.

Your problem will be that you will likely have to work for a company first... that does put you in the position of working and interacting with others. You have to be trained... nobody is going let you just go out and train yourself. That is where you will find the things you are trying to avoid. Once you have enough experience to get on with one of the third parties... or better yet, just get your own truck... then you can get more toward the situation you describe.

Exactly, plus there are drivers out here who have had mishaps running stuff over, crashes, etc. There is a ton of traffic with even more people, specifically on live fracs, flowbacks and rigs. You want that degree of safety and oversite. I'd hate to think about how many deaths would occur out here without the extensive safety programs that are ran.

I'm exploring this option and have some questions. Are these types of jobs seasonal or year round? What is the typical starting pay? How long is training? Also I have almost completed year 1 OTR, will that be enough experience to be hired? Thanks in advance!

Seems like it would be best to bring a camper trailer, does anybody know if any of the companies that hire for this kind of work offer a place to park it and live out of? Or are there places where you can rent a spot for a year or two? If I get a job and go up there I will bring my family - how are elementary schools there? I have a child that will be starting kindergarden but can be homeschooled if need be. I will stay 1-2 years at least.

My wife said there's no way she would want to live up by Williston but she sure liked the idea of Grand Forks. What kind of driving do you have to do to break over 80k? I like to work when I know I'm making the cash. Is that a myth that you can make 100k? If I can't find the great pay around Grand Forks I think I'll get a camper to pull behind my truck and live out of that and just visit the wife when I come home.

I need to find out more information from somebody up there. I definitely want to bring the whole family if possible. My wifes alright with living out of a camper trailer for a little while, I'm ready for anything. My home is already for sale and I have several options open, North Dakota is a possibility right now.

Finding a reasonably priced family home is not an easy task. There are more being built but it just hasn't caught up with the demand. Campers are hugely popular, and there are a few companies that offer family housing I have heard but I have no clue who they are honestly.
