Hi everyone,
New member here.
I have 9 months OTR experience since I got my CDL (tanker and hazmat endorsement), but I want to come work in the oil fields.
I quit that job on good terms, and I'm thinking of leaving Florida and going to the Odessa-Midland-Big Spring area of Texas for employment.(Or wherever the best area would be to go)
I have a truck camper to live in and the funds to get there. What I want to know is- Are my chances of finding employment as a driver good if I just show up looking for work?
If so, and since my knowledge of the business is zero, what type of truck pays best for my qualifications that I should apply for? (vac truck, water, sand, etc.)
And since I have my own housing, what can I expect as far as where to set it up and live at?
Do any employers offer onsite camper parking or should I expect to rent a spot at a local campground and pay monthly rent. The reason I ask is it being a truck camper,
I would probably have to unload it from the bed of the truck in order to drive the truck back and forth to work.
Thanks for any help, I hope to see you there soon.

Last questions first, Some companies have their own "rv Parks" not many though, some do "man camps", some like the one my husband work's for has their own trailers and rent's the spot's and a few rent the trailers and spot's.... of course some companies offer nothing.
Being here and going in for a F2F is the best way to get a job here.
I'm not 100% sure about crude hauling with 9 months.... but worth stopping in and asking. Water hauling with 9 mo...yeah you can get a job, no problem. Hubby say's vac shouldn't be a problem either. Sand probably not a problem either. Husband say's most around here only want 6 months, a few less.
We happen to be from Florida also. did OTR for a year and a 1/2, then he decided to try this.Chinatown Thanks this. -
You'll have no problem finding a job in a vac truck hauling water. Try smaller companies first because they tend to pay more. Most people living in an RV are using a trailer or motor home. I'm not sure how practical the truck camper will be. I don't know if the RV parks would allow you to drop the camper on the ground. You will definitely have more success by coming out in person. You'll find a lot more jobs by driving around looking for hiring banners hanging from trucking yard fences.

The Rv park we are going to stay in requires you to have holding tanks. So no campers with out bathrooms and no FEMA trailers because they don't have tanks.
Where in Florida are you coming from? -
Will be coming from Tallahassee
