I just added Hazmat and Douples/triples endorsements to my CDL-A here in Nevada for the price of..... $3.50
Seriously, three dollars and fifty cents. Granted, you have to pay $80 for the fingerprints for haz-mat, but all the tests are free to take, and if you pass, you just pay the printing cost for your new license.
I can't imagine demanding my employer reimburse me for any of that.
Need advice...

Well, I'm glad I'm not you, because my company always reimburses me for all the endorsements it requires. Maybe $86.50 plus the cost of the testing doesn't mean much to you, but any money I can keep in my own pockets is good for me and good for my family. -
Well if its a problem with money to pay for the endorsement yourself then yea I would say wait and see if the employer will pay for it, but if you can swing the cost , it just makes you more marketable.

Becuase people simply dont take the time to get them. Plus, if you manage to get a hazmat with your finger prints done it means you can pass a federal bacground check. which means they dont have to worry about whether or not spending the time and money to do there own company background will be worth it. It's definitely a plus and will make your resume stand out. Not all these companies want experienced workers believe it or not. Some companies want people they can train up.

sounds like you got a burr under your saddle. a person with an endorsement is more qualified. the endorsement is the qualification. you can't take a hazmat load without it. so it is not a bragging point, it is a necessary qualification, if you want to put a hazmat load. can't pull a tanker with out an endorsement. can't get experience pulling a wet load with out driving one. I think we are all on the same team here.
Thompysona and newguy76 Thank this. -
Congrats on keeping your $80; mine was well spent, and I made it back by 10 AM my first day on the job... which I GOT because I already had all the needed endorsements, thus placing me ahead of the rest of the applicants.
I'll tell you one thing I've learned in life: employers appreciate when prospective employees show initiative and a desire to invest in themselves and their careers. Just something to think about.4eigner, Thompysona and newguy76 Thank this. -
I just started orientation for a coil tubing job today. I just got my cdl a month ago and have only a year of unrelated oilfield experience. I feel the time and money I spent was well worth it. I made it all back today siting on my butt watching powerpoints and sighning papers.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx LOL
