I have a CDL with no endorsements and have not driven since 09 when I had three months experience. I live in a great place for oilfield and am starting a refresher course tomorrow for 50 hrs. I have been looking at OTR driving and am not opposed to that, but my wife would really like for me to be home every night and I know the money in the oil field would be better than OTR. My question is how do I even go about finding trucking jobs in the oilfield around my house and can I do it with no endorsements?? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks drivers!

I guess the first question would be where are you?

You should at least get your tanker endorsement. You can haul water with that. Hazmat would be good too.

I've thought about that, but is there a division I could stay in while I work on getting the endorsements?

If your looking to get into the oil field most company's will get you the training. If you have the training before hand it would be more easier for the hiring process.

Is there a generic website I should go to and apply, or how does that work?

If you live in the shreveport area I would suggest the frac companies like frac tec or platinum pump in waskom. Home every night? I think thats going to be a strech. If you get your tanker at least you can look into the vacuum or water hauling jobs as they are called. Pinnergy, basic, bolt, there are quite a few of those companies around the east texas and shreveport area. These jobs are strictly driving and should allow you to be home at night. Go on indeed there are tons of posts on there all the time.

If there is a company willing to hire you with practically no experience, they'll pay you to get whatever endorsements they require. Never pay for endorsements yourself. Always let the companies you work for pay for your endorsements.

I totally agree. The tanker endorsement test is pretty easy. You can even take practice tests online
