Hey folks, I'm new to the forum and want to say thanks for all the great info so far. My question is whether it is possible to get a job if you're in the reserves. I live in south Texas and have to drill 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year. I plan on getting my CDL soon, and want to get an idea of what the job outlook will look like.

Its Texas. Its the most patriotic state I have been in. Well New York Irish are too. I think some one will hire you. By law they can't take your job away for training or deployment.

What do want to do? Do you have cdl? Are there any job fairs soon. There are five day a week driving jobs down here. Pulling units are normally m-f.

I doubt that it would be any problem at all. Oilfield companies love military vets and that would likely be extended to a reservist as well. Go for it.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I don't have a CDL but I plan on getting it this summer via the Del Mar training program. There are a couple of conferences toward the end of April in San Antonio and Corpus that I'm going to check out. I know there are lots of jobs around me if I have my CDL, my big concern is not getting hired because someone doesn't want to let me go drill 1 weekend a month.

Without knowing your situation or immediate plans... don't rule out the opportunity of getting hired by a company who will send you to cdl training. There is a lot of info in these forums. I suggest you do some reading. You..being in the area already, with anything at all related to military... are likely a top pick for many companies.

That's a good point, something worth looking into, thanks Arky.

Yes they do. I work with a couplea drivers that are reservists. Until she retired, My wife was a reservist. Just gotta have notice, that's all. I have friends at Matrix that are army reservists, Sunoco has 3 or 4 up here, we cover their weekends. And why wouldn't we, they take care of us! Thank you for your service!
