I have been talking with a recruiter about a sand hauling gig in Dilley TX with Arnold Trans. Anyone work for them out there? I got an email offering positions with the company and that was one of them. I guess I was on there list from an app I did in 2013. $75 per load, min 2-3 loads per day. Housing is provided. I was unaware Arnold was even doing anything in the TX oilfields.

Find out about detention loading/unloading. How many days a week will they keep you working. Is housing free? How many miles per load. etc
Used to have $150 min as driver norm in sand. 1 hour detention went to as many as 10 of your time free. Lot will call detention storage and knock rate down to customer. Your $15 an hr can go to $5-10 if they decide to kiss customer rear end. And weeks of work turned into sporadic well. Work 4 days.. Sit at filthy truckstop for several days for free. Benefits ??? Insurance available? S TX has every throat/price cutting rat in US down there now. Hope you find one of the few good companies left in that area.unloader, Western flyer and bobthesailor Thank this. -
Well Arnold didn't work out. Went through orientation, got to man-camp down in Dilley and things fell apart. Took several days to go out with a trainer, all the while you sit without pay because when you are in training they pay you by the hour. No trainer loads is what I was told. Turns out everyone down here is planning to leave within the next week. The guy I was in orientation with bailed on the second day.
I did get sent out on one run with a trainer. Was told to be up at 0800 for to head out. Didn't get a load with trainer till 2300. Trying to be a team player, so I said "yeah let's run." Finally (accurately, unofficially) went off-duty at 1900 the next night, a total of 20 hours of being on duty. Told to log it legal and get some sleep. I got some sleep alright.
After sitting around for several days and one mammoth day of working, I said this is it. I got told this is how things work in the oil fields, yet when I talked to several drivers for other companies they claimed their companies didn't make them work past their 15 hour on-duty limit. In a San Antonio hotel at the moment, orientation scheduled with Stevens Tanker on Monday.
Any leads for the San Antonio area? I'm willing and ready to work, but I'm not going to be up awake for 15 hours, accept a load and then work way past my 15 hour on duty limit. This really isn't how it works out here is it?

Arnold had a contract with Universal that expired I believe last month. We had been called in to help out with a well just west of Cotulla that Arnold was working.....Universal wanted us to take the whole thing when the contract expired...but we took a third crew with our primary customer, so we didn't have enough trucks to put over there. Universal now has their own trucks running that crew.
Arnold guys were constantly plugging up, blowing sand on the ground, and from what I saw couldn't back a truck up to save their lives. Other than that they were ok I guess........ -
