True! and it can't be blamed on the influx of outsiders...I see plenty of actual Midlanders littering. I work with one guy who constantly litters. I called him on it and suggested a little state pride and he was like Pffft! Who cares?
As for Midessa being a desert....FAR from it! It isn't even an ARID climate...it's a Semi-arid climate....

UGH, if the area isn't a desert it's close enough. Then again I'm from a semi-tropical climate...lol -
You will need to take a week or so probably and explore the state a little to make up your own mind. Lot of people think all TX is like Midland area. No way. E, N, SE are totally different in scenery and people. Lot more Latin flavor in Valley up to San Antonio. Houston has more people from everywhere. Dallas is too big like Houston. It is Ft Worth s slum. lol Terrible schools. But burbs can be great. DFW area has about anything you want. FTW museums are world class and have been for decades. Dallas and Houston are always playing catch up. NASCAR/Indy racing if you're into that. NHRA in Ennis just S of town. Lots of growing pains as well as the nation flounders and people flee to find work. And don't forget New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, others. There is oil work going on everywhere. N Dakota got all the publicity first even though fracking was pretty well launched to where it is by Barnett Shale in FTW and surrounding area. Lots of old dried up towns are coming back. They are fracking old slow or abandoned wells and they start producing again. Graham, Jacksboro, Wichita Falls many others are seeing lots of oil related jobs. Sure it is same in other states as well or will be. Sure you will find something that gets you what you are looking for. Again stay safe friend. -

I know this doesn't answer your question but here is some interesting news for the area....http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-Texas/2014/04/30/Two-Texas-Cities-Lead-the-US-in-Income-Growth......
They can't keep up with the growth, housing, schools, infrastructure will lag behind the boom in growth.M35a2 Thanks this. -
I've heard most places in texas beat the heck out of ND towns

Why not come to San Antonio? Live in the big city, with everything in the world you want and normal rent. The Eagle Ford Shale is within an hours drive. All the major oilfield companies are here, with offices/shops locally. Baker Hughes, Schlumberger, Halliburton, Weatherford...the list goes on and on. If your looking for trucking jobs, they are all here as well. You may have to drive 30-60 minutes to work if your company doesn't have a yard here in San Antonio, but I'll make that drive if it means affordable housing, having an actual life in a big city and endless employment opportunities. Hope this helps.

The biggest thing that Texas has going for it though, is the lack of a sales tax, and when they use the death penalty, they don't botch it! -Although I don't see what the big deal was, the guy did die after all...... -
One of the most helpful threads I've read regarding housing. One thing I've heard before though is that where those nicer areas and city's (OK, Houston, San Antonio, etc) are, ppl working in the nearby oil patches are making less money. Is this so? Are b.f. Egypt locations like odessa/midland and ND paying more to offer more of an incentive for ppl to work? Is this true? Also, if it is true, where do u end up with your money when/if you pay for stupid high housing and jacked up food costs versus not, but working and living near those nicer areas and city's?
