I'm interested in moving to corpus Christi and working oilfield, I only have a class a tanker and no hazmat. I have worked in midland Odessa and know the jobs are currently booming. My brother works vacuum trucks in corpus and claims oilfield jobs and CDL drivers are needed immensely there as well. Now I could get a condo in corpus for $1,000 a month which a travel trailer would cost me the same in Odessa both with all bills included. The only thing is I feel corpus has a lower wage compared to Odessa and I am trying to figure out which would put more money in my pocket in the long run. I have over a year experience in the oilfield. Just trying to see who has recent first hand knowledge of corpus Christi and Odessa and give me your best opinion. I loved Odessa and the desert. But I also love the coast too. Any advice on choosing between the two would be greatly appreciated. I already have offers in Midland Odessa but like I said I am considering Corpus Christi instead. Thanls

I'd stay put if you have offers in Midland area. I've worked in various oilfield positions the last few years, all around Corpus, and from everything I know and have heard, unless you have family here or other reasons to live near Corpus, there's no upside. There is demand, but it's also competitive. Employers can afford to be selective, and West TX pays a little better with comparable cost of living.
    Good luck...

The only thing you didn't mention is that Odessa/Midlan is a big S:-thole
Corpus has more of an outside life

How long do you want to work in Odessa? I didn't think it was a bad place. If you don't want to settle down, stay in Odessa. I wouldn't mind staying in mid/Odessa but what jobs will be there in 6 years?

True, but a 3.5% unemployment rate goes a long way.

It's been around 3.5% for the last few months. I don't think 1% is statistically possible due to fluctuations caused by people quitting jobs, etc.
