Hi folks,
I'm used to a pretty traditional salary equation. I earn money 5 days a week, but none on weekends. I also earn paid vacation time for every day I work. As I look at the trucking industry I'm becoming confused. I see a lot of different combinations of days on/days off. In the oil patch I see mention of multiple 7 day weeks on followed by days or weeks off. Are vacation days a separate thing from those days off? Some companies pay money even on off days, right? What arrangements are most common, especially in the oil fields?
Please help me understand days off and vacation days.

As for vacation, most give you 1 week a year. Some give you 1 week a year for the first two years, then 2 weeks for the third year, etc. Again, just depends on the carrier. -

I dont see why you would need vacation if you get that much time off

My guess would be that the companies who work rotating shifts dont have vacation days. They might give you the 40 hrs pay on one of your off weeks or something... apparently some pay you on your off weeks anyway. Personally, as a newbie, I would probably ignore that anyway. You need to know if the schedule is suitable for your personal situation and how much money you can make. Everything else can be looked at after you have some experience and know what to look for.

All frac companies that I know give you vacation time. It doesn't seem like you'll want it but after six months or a year your gonna want some extra time off. You just use your vacation time on the days your scheduled to work. My companie gives us ten hour for every vacation day and we get 10 days a year as well as five sick days a year.
Arky Thanks this.
