my brother recently started with Pilot/Flying J hauling crude. great pay and benefits but the company is suffering massive growing pains and is very disorganized. they have a few new yards going up throughout Texas but not enough people that know what there doing to run the places and management seem to be detached jerks who have no idea what it takes to haul oil or how to treat their drivers rite.
they cant find enough drivers and are scrambling to find em wherever they can but will require a hair follicle test and and a lot of training with a ride along trainer even if you have oil field experience and its all electronic logs and with all that they fired 40 guys last week that were in training and the manager of three of the yards is pressing charges on two drivers for being caught smoking cigarettes in their company trucks.
sounds like a great company on paper but the reality is you are only a number to them unless you work in the office and have a college education then they might treat you like a human

The bolded statements seem to contradict each other... So why'd they fire 40 guys who were in training?

when he was let go the next day he went back with his trainer and the manager of the yard he was working out of to speak with the higher up manager that made the call to let him go. they came to vouch for him that he was a competent driver and try to get his job back. the higher up manager guy that let him go wasnt hearing it he was short and rude to them and basically said tough ##### go away and gave the two that came with him flack for wasting his time. after they left the two that came with him tried to smooth over the situation with small talk and explained that the same guy that fired him also fired 40 other guys the week before including the two he is actively pressing charges on for smoking in company trucks.

the company needs trucks and drivers, they cant get enough of either but their zero tolerance policy is so strict and this manager guy is such a hard ### that whomever tries to hire in there needs to now what you will be getting yourself into.

charges for smoking in a company truck? A violation of the federal regulations for hazmat. Don't know of any criminal charges he could possibly bring.

Totally different attitude at Pilot/J crude in Wyoming...

i dont have anything to gain by posting this either. im in michigan. as an adult you take in all the info you can then sort through whatever you think is BS. what i provided for you is a little more info then you had about this company what you do with that info is up to you. i may sound like b.s. to you but i did mention the pay is good and so are the benefits to alot of guys thats all that matters but the rest of us like being treated like the men we are with respect and not a number to be talked down too by detached pansy in an office behind a desk.

Applied at several companies at job fair and man I could of sworn they said haul crude.

Asked at training they said is up to terminal. They did say may be a fueler but up to terminal. In training everyone was either tech or haul oil few of us were never assigned. I did have exp btw
My beef was show up terminal and being left in dark, but all good just typical when in unknown

Thanks all for input, appreciate it

Work is busy worked 16 hr days doing what everyone said would, lol :biggrin_2554:
Day off today then straight 2 weeks work.Still not feeling confident with company said would be leaving now actually working local, drive in team. Very disorganized like y'all said but as long as get hours and make dinero will stay put for now. Feel uncertainty tho.

Quick question. My team does not meet at terminal but at parking lot in SA, do most companies pay the sec you get in company truck to drive to site(1 hr away) or paid when at site? Since am new I don't control my time sheet yet but will next week. First day a frac tech sent my hours and seems it was from time I got to site, was told at terminal paid mileage. I can ask later and will but just curious. Don't see manager only been to terminal the first day.

Pilot used to pay from the moment you clocked in, now they pay your hourly only when you're actually on site and a lesser amount for mileage pay when you're driving to/from site.... hence why they lost a lot of their drivers.
