How much experience is needed to drive for the oil companies?

Go out to an oilfield and start applying. Should be no problem getting a job.

 

least amount you can start with... hmm NONE.
for cdl usually the rule of thumb is minimum $15 an hour for starters. You got some companies that pays more per hour, but then do they get a lot of hours.. Point is if you make $20 an hour but are stuck with top 40 , then you ll make more at $16 with 60 hours / week.
For the specific schedule your looking at I don't have any ideas in my line of work - Fluid Services , (aka water) its usually on a 4/2 basis for most , smaller or third party might have different arrangements.

 

I had no experience and no CDL school. Got hired. Quit after two months and got hired for a better position with better pay, schedule and location so you should be ok if you can pee in a cup.

That said you need to want it. I filled out probably 1000 applications over the course of 6 months.

 

And they are all like 12-14 pages. FML.

 

Yeah the applications suck. Demeaning and a waste of time. I'd like to find whoever decided on the format for these forms companies all use.

If I didn't land this job, I was not going to fill out another app.

to make money in the oil field, takes dedication, long hours, and be ready to work when the work is there... Companies will advertise a 3 week/ 1 week off work schedule, but the demands of the job will change that very quickly...

You have a CDL, minimal experience, you can get hired. Most oilfield driving is off the paved roads, and it is a different type of driving and skills.

You looking to haul water, sand, crude, or work for one of the service companies where you drive to the site, setup and run the equipment for days, then breakdown the equipment, and move to the next site?

 

The easiest way to get into the patch is going to be through fracing. I got on with Consolidated Oil Well Services two years ago, they sent me to school for my cdl, got a years worth of experience, went to hauling water and now I am hauling crude.

Three weeks without a day off is a long,long time. I wouldn't recommend it. You are better off with a 5/2,5/3 or a 4/2 schedule.
