I just got hired on with a company based out of Odessa. I'm a sand hauler but it seems like most of my time is spent waiting for a load. I drove out here from California because I thought there was tons of work out here. I kept hearing stories of people working 80+ hours a week. Starting to think I should apply for pilot since I spend so much time there. Lol. Is this normal or should I be running non stop?

I did a short stint with Arnold transportation in their sand hauling division down in Dilley. I waited around for five days to get trained because they didn't have enough work. I've read there is indeed a lot of waiting involved in sand.

I work for Stevens tanker now and this week I've turned in 67 hours. It's been a much better experience than trying to just get trained in the sand hauling gig.

While your sitting at the pilot talk to other sand drivers
from other companies and see what there doing.
find out who's got the work and jump ship.
